You need to have an X server with the "DEC-XTRAP" module loaded.
In example, an XFree86 configuration file might contain the
following "Modules" section:
    
       Section "Module" 
           ...

           # DEC-XTRAP extension module.
           Load     "xtrap"
       EndSection
