| * perf buildid-cache: Check relocation when checking for existing kcoreAdrian Hunter2014-01-311-4/+29
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | perf buildid-cache does not make another copy of kcore if the buildid and modules match an existing copy. That does not take into account the possibility that the kernel has been relocated. Extend the check to check if the reference relocation symbol matches too, otherwise do make a copy. | * perf tools: Adjust kallsyms for relocated kernelAdrian Hunter2014-01-311-2/+38
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If the kernel is relocated at boot time, kallsyms will not match data recorded previously. That does not matter for modules because they are corrected anyway. It also does not matter if vmlinux is being used for symbols. But if perf tools has only kallsyms then the symbols will not match. Fix by applying the delta gained by comparing the old and current addresses of the relocation reference symbol. | * perf symbols: Prevent the use of kcore if the kernel has movedAdrian Hunter2014-01-311-4/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use of kcore is predicated upon it matching the recorded data. If the kernel has been relocated at boot time (i.e. since the data was recorded) then do not use kcore. Note that it is possible to make a copy of kcore at the time the data is recorded using 'perf buildid-cache'. Then the perf tools will use the copy because it does match the data. | * perf record: Get ref_reloc_sym from kernel mapAdrian Hunter2014-01-313-30/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that ref_reloc_sym is set up when the kernel map is created, 'perf record' does not need to pass the symbol names to perf_event__synthesize_kernel_mmap() which can read the values needed from ref_reloc_sym directly. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The ref_reloc_sym is always needed for the kernel map in order to check for relocation. | * perf symbols: Fix symbol annotation for relocated kernelAdrian Hunter2014-01-313-2/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Kernel maps map memory addresses to file offsets. For symbol annotation, objdump needs the object VMA addresses. For an unrelocated kernel, that is the same as the memory address. The addresses passed to objdump for symbol annotation did not take into account kernel relocation. This patch fixes that. | * perf tools: Fix include for non x86 architecturesFrancesco Fusco2014-01-311-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 71ae8aac ("lib: introduce arch optimized hash library") added an include to <linux/hash.h> for setting up an architecture specific fast hash. Since perf includes directly the non-uapi kernel header, it cannot find <asm/hash.h> on non-x86 and thus prevents perf to be compiled on every architecture other than x86. The problem is the inclusion of <asm/hash.h> in hash.h that results in the following error originating from util/evlist.c: fatal error: asm/hash.h: No such file or directory This commit simply adds an empty <asm/hash.h> stub/file to fix the compile issue on non-x86 architectures. As perf does not use any of these new functions, it fixes the compilation and therefore seems to be the most appropriate solution to go with. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | errx Most of turbostat's error handling consists of printing an error (often including an errno) and exiting. Since perror doesn't support a format string, those error messages are often ambiguous, such as just showing a file path, which doesn't uniquely identify which call failed. turbostat already uses _GNU_SOURCE, so switch to the err and errx functions from err.h, which take a format string. On such systems, turbostat generates the following warnings: turbostat.c: In function 'get_core_id': turbostat.c:1203:8: warning: ignoring return value of 'fscanf', declared with attribute warn_unused_result [-Wunused-result] turbostat.c: In function 'get_physical_package_id': turbostat.c:1186:8: warning: ignoring return value of 'fscanf', declared with attribute warn_unused_result [-Wunused-result] turbostat.c: In function 'cpu_is_first_core_in_package': turbostat.c:1169:8: warning: ignoring return value of 'fscanf', declared with attribute warn_unused_result [-Wunused-result] turbostat.c: In function 'cpu_is_first_sibling_in_core': turbostat.c:1148:8: warning: ignoring return value of 'fscanf', declared with attribute warn_unused_result [-Wunused-result] Fix these by checking the return value of those four calls to fscanf. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | turbostat uses inline assembly to call cpuid. On 32-bit x86, on systems that have certain security features enabled by default that make -fPIC the default, this causes a build error: turbostat.c: In function ‘check_cpuid’: turbostat.c:1906:2: error: PIC register clobbered by ‘ebx’ in ‘asm’ asm("cpuid" : "=a" (fms), "=c" (ecx), "=d" (edx) : "a" (1) : "ebx"); ^ GCC provides a header cpuid.h, containing a __get_cpuid function that works with both PIC and non-PIC. | * | turbostat: Don't attempt to printf an off_t with %zxJosh Triplett2014-01-181-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | turbostat uses the format %zx to print an off_t. However, %zx wants a size_t, not an off_t. On 32-bit targets, those refer to different types, potentially even with different sizes. Use %llx and a cast instead, since printf does not have a length modifier for off_t. Without this patch, when compiling for a 32-bit target: turbostat.c: In function 'get_msr': turbostat.c:231:3: warning: format '%zx' expects argument of type 'size_t', but argument 4 has type 'off_t' [-Wformat] Signed-off-by: Josh Triplett <josh@joshtriplett.org> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
| * | turbostat: Don't put unprocessed uapi headers in the include pathJosh Triplett2014-01-182-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | turbostat's Makefile puts arch/x86/include/uapi/ in the include path, so that it can include <asm/msr.h> from it. It isn't in general safe to include even uapi headers directly from the kernel tree without processing them through scripts/headers_install.sh, but asm/msr.h happens to work. However, that include path can break with some versions of system headers, by overriding some system headers with the unprocessed versions directly from the kernel source. For instance: In file included from /build/x86-generic/usr/include/bits/sigcontext.h:28:0, from /build/x86-generic/usr/include/signal.h:339, from /build/x86-generic/usr/include/sys/wait.h:31, from turbostat.c:27: ../../../../arch/x86/include/uapi/asm/sigcontext.h:4:28: fatal error: linux/compiler.h: No such file or directory This occurs because the system bits/sigcontext.h on that build system includes <asm/sigcontext.h>, and asm/sigcontext.h in the kernel source includes <linux/compiler.h>, which scripts/headers_install.sh would have filtered out. Since turbostat really only wants a single header, just include that one header rather than putting an entire directory of kernel headers on the include path. In the process, switch from msr.h to msr-index.h, since turbostat just wants the MSR numbers. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Valgrind found that extracted labels that are passed from the lexer weren't freed upon exit. | * | | filter: bpf_asm: add minimal bpf asm toolDaniel Borkmann2013-12-114-2/+960
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are a couple of valid use cases for a minimal low-level bpf asm like tool, for example, using/linking to libpcap is not an option, the required BPF filters use Linux extensions that are not supported by libpcap's compiler, a filter might be more complex and not cleanly implementable with libpcap's compiler, particular filter codes should be optimized differently than libpcap's internal BPF compiler does, or for security audits of emitted BPF JIT code for prepared set of BPF instructions resp. BPF JIT compiler development in general. Then, in such cases writing such a filter in low-level syntax can be an good alternative, for example, xt_bpf and cls_bpf users might have requirements that could result in more complex filter code, or one that cannot be expressed with libpcap (e.g. different return codes in cls_bpf for flowids on various BPF code paths). Moreover, BPF JIT implementors may wish to manually write test cases in order to verify the resulting JIT image, and thus need low-level access to BPF code generation as well. Therefore, complete the available toolchain for BPF with this small bpf_asm helper tool for the tools/net/ directory. These 3 complementary minimal helper tools round up and facilitate BPF development. Signed-off-by: Daniel Borkmann <dborkman@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds a minimal BPF debugger that "emulates" the kernel's BPF engine (w/o extensions) and allows for single stepping (forwards and backwards through BPF code) or running with >=1 breakpoints through selected or all packets from a pcap file with a provided user filter in order to facilitate verification of a BPF program. When a breakpoint is being hit, it dumps all register contents, decoded instructions and in case of branches both decoded branch targets as well as other useful information. Having this facility is in particular useful to verify BPF programs against given test traffic *before* attaching to a live system. With the general availability of cls_bpf, xt_bpf, socket filters, team driver and e.g. PTP code, all BPF users, quite often a single more complex BPF program is being used. Reasons for a more complex BPF program are primarily to optimize execution time for making a verdict when multiple simple BPF programs are combined into one in order to prevent parsing same headers multiple times. In particular, for cls_bpf that can have various return paths for encoding flowids, and xt_bpf to come to a fw verdict this can be the case. Therefore, as this can result in more complex and harder to debug code, it would be very useful to have this minimal tool for testing purposes. It can also be of help for BPF JIT developers as filters are "test attached" to the kernel on a temporary socket thus triggering a JIT image dump when enabled. The tool uses an interactive libreadline shell with auto-completion and history support. Signed-off-by: Daniel Borkmann <dborkman@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

This leads to the path including an extra prefix in it, e.g. /usr/usr/lib64. The -DPLUGIN_DIR defintion includes DESTDIR. This is incorrect, as it sets the plugin search path to include the value of DESTDIR. DESTDIR is a mechanism to install in a non-standard location such as a chroot or an RPM build root. In the RPM case, this leads to the search path being incorrect after the resulting RPM is installed (or in some cases an RPM build failure). Remove both of these unnecessary inclusions. This was because current map__new() only handle JIT on anon mappings - extends it to handle no_dso (heap, stack) case too. This patch assumes JIT profiling only provides dynamic function symbols so check the mapping type to distinguish the case. It'd provide no symbols for data mapping - if we need to support symbols on data mappings later it should be changed. It could be triggered with: # perf stat -a -e power/energy-cores/ ls When cpumask are used by events (.e.g, RAPL or uncores) then the evsel fds are allocated based on the actual number of CPUs monitored. That number can be smaller than the total number of CPUs on the system. The problem arises at the end by perf stat closes the fds twice. When fds are closed, their entry in the xyarray are set to -1. The first close() on the evsel is made from __run_perf_stat() and it uses the actual number of CPUS for the event which is how the xyarray was allocated for. The second is from perf_evlist_close() but that one is on the total number of CPUs in the system, so it assume the xyarray was allocated to cover it. However it was not, and some writes corrupt memory. The fix is in perf_evlist_close() is to first try with the evsel->cpus if present, if not use the evlist->cpus. That fixes the problem. They are fixes and cleanups mostly, as usual, with a couple of new features in the mix. The most visible change is probably that we will create struct acpi_device objects (visible in sysfs) for all devices represented in the ACPI tables regardless of their status and there will be a new sysfs attribute under those objects allowing user space to check that status via _STA. Consequently, ACPI device eject or generally hot-removal will not delete those objects, unless the table containing the corresponding namespace nodes is unloaded, which is extremely rare. Also ACPI container hotplug will be handled quite a bit differently and cpufreq will support CPU boost ("turbo") generically and not only in the acpi-cpufreq driver. Specifics: - ACPI core changes to make it create a struct acpi_device object for every device represented in the ACPI tables during all namespace scans regardless of the current status of that device. In accordance with this, ACPI hotplug operations will not delete those objects, unless the underlying ACPI tables go away. - On top of the above, new sysfs attribute for ACPI device objects allowing user space to check device status by triggering the execution of _STA for its ACPI object. From Srinivas Pandruvada. - ACPI core hotplug changes reducing code duplication, integrating the PCI root hotplug with the core and reworking container hotplug. - ACPI core simplifications making it use ACPI_COMPANION() in the code "glueing" ACPI device objects to "physical" devices. - ACPICA update to upstream version 20131218. This adds support for the DBG2 and PCCT tables to ACPICA, fixes some bugs and improves debug facilities. From Bob Moore, Lv Zheng and Betty Dall. - Init code change to carry out the early ACPI initialization earlier. That should allow us to use ACPI during the timekeeping initialization and possibly to simplify the EFI initialization too. From Chun-Yi Lee. - Clenups of the inclusions of ACPI headers in many places all over from Lv Zheng and Rashika Kheria (work in progress). - New helper for ACPI _DSM execution and rework of the code in drivers that uses _DSM to execute it via the new helper. From Jiang Liu. - New Win8 OSI blacklist entries from Takashi Iwai. - Assorted ACPI fixes and cleanups from Al Stone, Emil Goode, Hanjun Guo, Lan Tianyu, Masanari Iida, Oliver Neukum, Prarit Bhargava, Rashika Kheria, Tang Chen, Zhang Rui. - intel_pstate driver updates, including proper Baytrail support, from Dirk Brandewie and intel_pstate documentation from Ramkumar Ramachandra. - Generic CPU boost ("turbo") support for cpufreq from Lukasz Majewski. - powernow-k6 cpufreq driver fixes from Mikulas Patocka. - cpufreq core fixes and cleanups from Viresh Kumar, Jane Li, Mark Brown. - Assorted cpufreq drivers fixes and cleanups from Anson Huang, John Tobias, Paul Bolle, Paul Walmsley, Sachin Kamat, Shawn Guo, Viresh Kumar. - cpuidle cleanups from Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz. - Support for hibernation APM events from Bin Shi. - Hibernation fix to avoid bringing up nonboot CPUs with ACPI EC disabled during thaw transitions from Bjørn Mork. - PM core fixes and cleanups from Ben Dooks, Leonardo Potenza, Ulf Hansson. - PNP subsystem fixes and cleanups from Dmitry Torokhov, Levente Kurusa, Rashika Kheria. - New tool for profiling system suspend from Todd E Brandt and a cpupower tool cleanup from One Thousand Gnomes" * tag 'pm+acpi-3.14-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm: (153 commits) thermal: exynos: boost: Automatic enable/disable of BOOST feature (at Exynos4412) cpufreq: exynos4x12: Change L0 driver data to CPUFREQ_BOOST_FREQ Documentation: cpufreq / boost: Update BOOST documentation cpufreq: exynos: Extend Exynos cpufreq driver to support boost cpufreq / boost: Kconfig: Support for software-managed BOOST acpi-cpufreq: Adjust the code to use the common boost attribute cpufreq: Add boost frequency support in core intel_pstate: Add trace point to report internal state. cpufreq: introduce cpufreq_generic_get() routine ARM: SA1100: Create dummy clk_get_rate() to avoid build failures cpufreq: stats: create sysfs entries when cpufreq_stats is a module cpufreq: stats: free table and remove sysfs entry in a single routine cpufreq: stats: remove hotplug notifiers cpufreq: stats: handle cpufreq_unregister_driver() and suspend/resume properly cpufreq: speedstep: remove unused speedstep_get_state platform: introduce OF style 'modalias' support for platform bus PM / tools: new tool for suspend/resume performance optimization ACPI: fix module autoloading for ACPI enumerated devices ACPI: add module autoloading support for ACPI enumerated devices ACPI: fix create_modalias() return value handling ...
