* perf tools: Introduce trace_event__tp_format_id()Jiri Olsa2016-07-121-0/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | To get struct event_format object from tracepoint ID. It will be used in following patches. * tools lib api fs: Adopt filename__read_str from perfJiri Olsa2016-02-161-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | We already moved similar functions in here, also it'll be useful for sysfs__read_str addition in following patch. * perf evsel: Propagate error info from tp_formatJiri Olsa2015-09-151-3/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Propagate error info from tp_format via ERR_PTR to get it all the way down to the parse-event.c tracepoint adding routines. Following functions now return pointer with encoded error: - tp_format - trace_event__tp_format - perf_evsel__newtp_idx - perf_evsel__newtp This affects several other places in perf, that cannot use pointer check anymore, but must utilize the err.h interface, when getting error information from above functions list. * tools lib api fs: Move tracing_path interface into api/fs/tracing_path.cJiri Olsa2015-09-041-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Moving tracing_path interface into api/fs/tracing_path.c out of util.c. It seems generic enough to be used by others, and I couldn't think of better place. * perf python: Remove dependency on 'machine' methodsArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2015-07-291-4/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The python binding still doesn't provide symbol resolving facilities, but the recent addition of the trace_event__register_resolver() function made it add as a dependency the machine__resolve_kernel_addr() method, that in turn drags all the symbol resolving code. The problem: [root@zoo ~]# perf test -v python 17: Try 'import perf' in python, checking link problems : --- start --- test child forked, pid 6853 Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: /tmp/build/perf/python/perf.so: undefined symbol: machine__resolve_kernel_addr test child finished with -1 ---- end ---- Try 'import perf' in python, checking link problems: FAILED! [root@zoo ~]# Fix it by requiring this function to receive the resolver as a parameter, just like pevent_register_function_resolver(), i.e. do not explicitely refer to an object file not included in tools/perf/util/python-ext-sources. * perf tools: Add trace-event global object for tracepoint interfaceJiri Olsa2013-12-041-0/+61
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In order to get the proper plugins processing we need to use full trace-event interface when creating tracepoint events. So far we were using shortcut to get the parsed format. Moving current 'event_format__new' function into trace-event object as 'trace_event__tp_format'. This function uses properly initialized global trace-event object, ensuring proper plugins processing. Add trace-event object to keep together 'struct pevent' object with its loaded plugins with following interface: int trace_event__init(struct trace_event *t); - Initalizes 'struct pevent' object and loads plugins for it void trace_event__cleanup(struct trace_event *t); - Cleanups both 'struct pevent' and plugins Signed-off-by: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@redhat.com> Cc: Corey Ashford <cjashfor@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Cc: David Ahern <dsahern@gmail.com> Cc: Frederic Weisbecker <fweisbec@gmail.com> Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Cc: Namhyung Kim <namhyung@kernel.org> Cc: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <a.p.zijlstra@chello.nl> Cc: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@goodmis.org> Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1386076182-14484-10-git-send-email-jolsa@redhat.com Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>
