* rtnetlink: Remove passing of attributes into rtnl_doit functionsThomas Graf2013-03-221-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | With decnet converted, we can finally get rid of rta_buf and its computations around it. It also gets rid of the minimal header length verification since all message handlers do that explicitly anyway. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. * pkt_sched: namespace aware act_mirredBenjamin LaHaise2013-01-141-8/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Eric Dumazet pointed out that act_mirred needs to find the current net_ns, and struct net pointer is not provided in the call chain. His original patch made use of current->nsproxy->net_ns to find the network namespace, but this fails to work correctly for userspace code that makes use of netlink sockets in different network namespaces. Instead, pass the "struct net *" down along the call chain to where it is needed. This version removes the ifb changes as Eric has submitted that patch separately, but is otherwise identical to the previous version. * net: Push capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) into the rtnl methodsEric W. Biederman2012-11-181-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - In rtnetlink_rcv_msg convert the capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) check to ns_capable(net->user-ns, CAP_NET_ADMIN). Allowing unprivileged users to make netlink calls to modify their local network namespace. - In the rtnetlink doit methods add capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) so that calls that are not safe for unprivileged users are still protected. Later patches will remove the extra capable calls from methods that are safe for unprivilged users. Acked-by: Serge Hallyn <serge.hallyn@canonical.com> Signed-off-by: "Eric W. * netlink: Rename pid to portid to avoid confusionEric W. Biederman2012-09-101-26/+26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It is a frequent mistake to confuse the netlink port identifier with a process identifier. Try to reduce this confusion by renaming fields that hold port identifiers portid instead of pid. I have carefully avoided changing the structures exported to userspace to avoid changing the userspace API. I have successfully built an allyesconfig kernel with this change. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. * rtnetlink: Compute and store minimum ifinfo dump sizeGreg Rose2011-06-091-3/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The message size allocated for rtnl ifinfo dumps was limited to a single page. This is not enough for additional interface info available with devices that support SR-IOV and caused a bug in which VF info would not be displayed if more than approximately 40 VFs were created per interface. Implement a new function pointer for the rtnl_register service that will calculate the amount of data required for the ifinfo dump and allocate enough data to satisfy the request. * pkt_sched: gen_kill_estimator() rcu fixesEric Dumazet2010-06-111-1/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | gen_kill_estimator() API is incomplete or not well documented, since caller should make sure an RCU grace period is respected before freeing stats_lock. This was partially addressed in commit 5d944c640b4 (gen_estimator: deadlock fix), but same problem exist for all gen_kill_estimator() users, if lock they use is not already RCU protected. A code review shows xt_RATEEST.c, act_api.c, act_police.c have this problem. Other are ok because they use qdisc lock, already RCU protected. | * include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. * [NET_SCHED]: Remove CONFIG_NET_ESTIMATOR optionPatrick McHardy2007-07-101-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | The generic estimator is always built in anways and all the config options does is prevent including a minimal amount of code for setting it up. Additionally the option is already automatically selected for most cases. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* [SK_BUFF]: Convert skb->tail to sk_buff_data_tArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-251-26/+26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | So that it is also an offset from skb->head, reduces its size from 8 to 4 bytes on 64bit architectures, allowing us to combine the 4 bytes hole left by the layer headers conversion, reducing struct sk_buff size to 256 bytes, i.e. 4 64byte cachelines, and since the sk_buff slab cache is SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN... :-) Many calculations that previously required that skb->{transport,network, mac}_header be first converted to a pointer now can be done directly, being meaningful as offsets or pointers. * [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-141-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files).
