| | | | | | | | net: Use <linux/capability.h> where capable() is used. Signed-off-by: Randy Dunlap <rdunlap@xenotime.net> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [NET]: Remove more unneeded typecasts on *malloc()Kris Katterjohn2006-01-111-8/+4
| | | | | | | | | This removes more unneeded casts on the return value for kmalloc(), sock_kmalloc(), and vmalloc(). Signed-off-by: Kris Katterjohn <kjak@users.sourceforge.net> Acked-by: James Morris <jmorris@namei.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* | [NET]: Add a dev_ioctl() fallback to sock_ioctl()Christoph Hellwig2006-01-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently all network protocols need to call dev_ioctl as the default fallback in their ioctl implementations. This patch adds a fallback to dev_ioctl to sock_ioctl if the protocol returned -ENOIOCTLCMD. This way all the procotol ioctl handlers can be simplified and we don't need to export dev_ioctl. * | [NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet2006-01-031-8/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * | [NET]: Avoid atomic xchg() for non-error caseBenjamin LaHaise2006-01-031-2/+3
|/ | | | | | | | | | | It also looks like there were 2 places where the test on sk_err was missing from the event wait logic (in sk_stream_wait_connect and sk_stream_wait_memory), while the rest of the sock_error() users look to be doing the right thing. This version of the patch fixes those, and cleans up a few places that were testing ->sk_err directly. Signed-off-by: Benjamin LaHaise <benjamin.c.lahaise@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* [IPV4]: Replace __in_dev_get with __in_dev_get_rcu/rtnlHerbert Xu2005-10-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The following patch renames __in_dev_get() to __in_dev_get_rtnl() and introduces __in_dev_get_rcu() to cover the second case. 1) RCU with refcnt should use in_dev_get(). 2) RCU without refcnt should use __in_dev_get_rcu(). 3) All others must hold RTNL and use __in_dev_get_rtnl(). There is one exception in net/ipv4/route.c which is in fact a pre-existing race condition. I've marked it as such so that we remember to fix it. This patch is based on suggestions and prior work by Suzanne Wood and Paul McKenney. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* [NET]: fix-up schedule_timeout() usageNishanth Aravamudan2005-09-121-6/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | Use schedule_timeout_{,un}interruptible() instead of set_current_state()/schedule_timeout() to reduce kernel size. * [IRDA]: IrDA prototype fixesAdrian Bunk2005-09-052-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Every file should #include the header files containing the prototypes of it's global functions. * [IRDA]: Possible cleanups.Adrian Bunk2005-08-294-8/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch contains the following possible cleanups: - make the following needlessly global function static: - irnet/irnet_ppp.c: irnet_init - remove the following unneeded EXPORT_SYMBOL's: - irlmp.c: sysctl_discovery_timeout - irlmp.c: irlmp_reasons - irlmp.c: irlmp_dup - irqueue.c: hashbin_find_next Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: David S. * [TCP]: Move the tcp sock states to net/tcp_states.hArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2005-08-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Lots of places just needs the states, not even linux/tcp.h, where this enum was, needs it. This speeds up development of the refactorings as less sources are rebuilt when things get moved from net/tcp.h. * [NET]: Kill skb->real_devDavid S. Miller2005-08-292-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Bonding just wants the device before the skb_bond() decapsulation occurs, so simply pass that original device into packet_type->func() as an argument. It remains to be seen whether we can use this same exact thing to get rid of skb->input_dev as well. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: Kill skb->listDavid S. Miller2005-08-291-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the "list" member of struct sk_buff, as it is entirely redundant. All SKB list removal callers know which list the SKB is on, so storing this in sk_buff does nothing other than taking up some space. Two tricky bits were SCTP, which I took care of, and two ATM drivers which Francois Romieu <romieu@fr.zoreil.com> fixed up. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net> Signed-off-by: Francois Romieu <romieu@fr.zoreil.com>
* [NET]: Transform skb_queue_len() binary tests into skb_queue_empty()David S. Miller2005-07-084-15/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This is part of the grand scheme to eliminate the qlen member of skb_queue_head, and subsequently remove the 'list' member of sk_buff. Most users of skb_queue_len() want to know if the queue is empty or not, and that's trivially done with skb_queue_empty() which doesn't use the skb_queue_head->qlen member and instead uses the queue list emptyness as the test. * [PATCH] ISA DMA Kconfig fixes - part 4 (irda)Al Viro2005-05-041-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | * net/irda/irda_device.c::irda_setup_dma() made conditional on ISA_DMA_API (it uses helpers in question and irda is usable on platforms that don't have them at all - think of USB IRDA, for example). * irda drivers that depend on ISA DMA marked as dependent on ISA_DMA_API Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@parcelfarce.linux.theplanet.co.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
