* alpha: fix x86.git merge build errorThomas Gleixner2008-01-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | a5a19c63f4e55e32dc0bc3d936d7f94793d8b380 removed the include of asm/pgalloc.h from asm-generic/tlb.h. That works fine on most architectures, but broke ALPHA. Fixup ALPHA by adding the include to asm-alpha/tlbflush.h Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

* alpha: build fixesIvan Kokshaysky2007-12-171-4/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This fixes some of the alpha-specific build problems, except a) modpost warning about COMMON symbol "saved_config" and b) nasty final link failure with gcc-4.x, -Os and scsi-disk driver configured built-in (due to jump table in .rodata referencing discarded .exit.text). - build failure with gcc-4.2.x: fix up casts in cia_io* routines to avoid warnings ('discards qualifiers from pointer target type'), which are failures, thanks to -Werror; - modpost warnings: add missing __init qualifier for titan and marvel; for non-generic build, move machine vectors from .data to .data.init.refok section; - unbreak CPU-specific optimization: rearrange cpuflags-y assignments so that extended -mcpu value (ev56, pca56, ev67) overrides basic one (ev5, ev6) and not vice versa. * Add CONFIG_DEBUG_SG sg validationJens Axboe2007-10-221-0/+3

* Change table chaining layoutJens Axboe2007-10-221-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Change the page member of the scatterlist structure to be an unsigned long, and encode more stuff in the lower bits: - Bits 0 and 1 zero: this is a normal sg entry. Next sg entry is located at sg + 1. - Bit 0 set: this is a chain entry, the next real entry is at ->page_link with the two low bits masked off. - Bit 1 set: this is the final entry in the sg entry. sg_next() will return NULL when passed such an entry. It's thus important that sg table users use the proper accessors to get and set the page member. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>

* increase AT_VECTOR_SIZE to terminate saved_auxv properlyOlaf Hering2007-10-172-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | include/asm-powerpc/elf.h has 6 entries in ARCH_DLINFO. fs/binfmt_elf.c has 14 unconditional NEW_AUX_ENT entries and 2 conditional NEW_AUX_ENT entries. So in the worst case, saved_auxv does not get an AT_NULL entry at the end. The saved_auxv array must be terminated with an AT_NULL entry. * Remove dma_cache_(wback|inv|wback_inv) functionsRalf Baechle2007-10-171-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | dma_cache_(wback|inv|wback_inv) were the earliest attempt on a generalized cache managment API for I/O purposes. Originally it was basically the raw MIPS low level cache API exported to the entire world. The API has suffered from a lack of documentation, was not very widely used unlike it's more modern brothers and can easily be replaced by dma_cache_sync. So remove it rsp. turn the surviving bits back into an arch private API, as discussed on linux-arch. * Add __GFP_MOVABLE for callers to flag allocations from high memory that may ↵Mel Gorman2007-07-171-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | be migrated It is often known at allocation time whether a page may be migrated or not. This patch adds a flag called __GFP_MOVABLE and a new mask called GFP_HIGH_MOVABLE. Allocations using the __GFP_MOVABLE can be either migrated using the page migration mechanism or reclaimed by syncing with backing storage and discarding. An API function very similar to alloc_zeroed_user_highpage() is added for __GFP_MOVABLE allocations called alloc_zeroed_user_highpage_movable(). The flags used by alloc_zeroed_user_highpage() are not changed because it would change the semantics of an existing API. After this patch is applied there are no in-kernel users of alloc_zeroed_user_highpage() so it probably should be marked deprecated if this patch is merged. Note that this patch includes a minor cleanup to the use of __GFP_ZERO in shmem.c to keep all flag modifications to inode->mapping in the shmem_dir_alloc() helper function. This clean-up suggestion is courtesy of Hugh Dickens. Additional credit goes to Christoph Lameter and Linus Torvalds for shaping the concept. * fix alpha ISA supportIvan Kokshaysky2007-07-161-3/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | isa_bus_to_virt() is still needed in a few places (lance.c, at least). When we switch the kernel to using -Werror-implicit-function-declaration, the lack of isa_bus_to_virt() breaks alpha allmodconfig builds. Add isa_bus_to_virt() and deprecate the ezisting ISA APIs, though it might be better to define these functions as BUG(), since virt_to_bus/bus_to_virt just do wrong things on a number of machines. * ALPHA: support graphics on non-zero PCI domainsJay Estabrook2007-06-013-18/+35
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This code replaces earlier and incomplete handling of graphics on non-zero PCI domains (aka hoses or peer PCI buses). An option (CONFIG_VGA_HOSE) is set TRUE if configuring a GENERIC kernel, or a kernel for MARVEL, TITAN, or TSUNAMI machines, as these are the machines whose SRM consoles are capable of configuring and handling graphics options on non-zero hoses. All other machines have the option set FALSE. A routine, "find_console_vga_hose()", is used to find the graphics device which the machine's firmware believes is the console device, and it sets a global (pci_vga_hose) for later use in managing access to the device. This is called in "init_arch" on TITAN and TSUNAMI machines; MARVEL machines use a custom version of this routine because of extra complexity. A routine, "locate_and_init_vga()", is used to find the graphics device and set a global (pci_vga_hose) for later use in managing access to the device, in the case where "find_console_vga_hose" has failed. Various adjustments are made to the ioremap and ioportmap routines for detecting and translating "legacy" VGA register and memory references to the real PCI domain. This patch could be made even simpler if we don't mind POLLREMOVE turning up in a few architectures that didn't have it previously (which should be OK as POLLREMOVE is not used anywhere in the current tree). * rename thread_info to stackRoman Zippel2007-05-091-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This finally renames the thread_info field in task structure to stack, so that the assumptions about this field are gone and archs have more freedom about placing the thread_info structure. Nonbroken archs which have a proper thread pointer can do the access to both current thread and task structure via a single pointer. It'll allow for a few more cleanups of the fork code, from which e.g. ia64 could benefit. * Remove hardcoding of hard_smp_processor_id on UP systemsFernando Luis Vazquez Cao2007-05-091-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With the advent of kdump, the assumption that the boot CPU when booting an UP kernel is always the CPU with a particular hardware ID (often 0) (usually referred to as BSP on some architectures) is not valid anymore. The reason being that the dump capture kernel boots on the crashed CPU (the CPU that invoked crash_kexec), which may be or may not be that particular CPU. Move definition of hard_smp_processor_id for the UP case to architecture-specific code ("asm/smp.h") where it belongs, so that each architecture can provide its own implementation. * atomic.h: atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular ↵Mathieu Desnoyers2007-05-081-28/+31
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | dependency atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. I agree (with Andi Kleen) this typeof is not needed and more error prone. All the original atomic.h code that uses cmpxchg (which includes the atomic_add_unless) uses defines instead of inline functions, probably to circumvent a circular dependency between system.h and atomic.h on powerpc (which my patch addresses). Therefore, it makes sense to use inline functions that will provide type checking. atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. Digging into the FRV architecture shows me that it is also affected by such a circular dependency. Here is the diff applying this against the rest of my atomic.h patches. It applies over the atomic.h standardization patches. * atomic.h: add atomic64 cmpxchg, xchg and add_unless to alphaMathieu Desnoyers2007-05-081-3/+46
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This series mainly adds support for missing 64 bits cmpxchg and 64 bits atomic add unless. Therefore, principally 64 bits architectures are targeted by these patches. It also adds the complete list of atomic operations on the atomic_long type. * Clean up mostly unused IOSPACE macrosDavid Gibson2007-05-081-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Most architectures defined three macros, MK_IOSPACE_PFN(), GET_IOSPACE() and GET_PFN() in pgtable.h. However, the only callers of any of these macros are in Sparc specific code, either in arch/sparc, arch/sparc64 or drivers/sbus. * move die notifier handling to common codeChristoph Hellwig2007-05-081-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch moves the die notifier handling to common code. Previous various architectures had exactly the same code for it. Note that the new code is compiled unconditionally, this should be understood as an appel to the other architecture maintainer to implement support for it aswell (aka sprinkling a notify_die or two in the proper place) arm had a notifiy_die that did something totally different, I renamed it to arm_notify_die as part of the patch and made it static to the file it's declared and used at. avr32 used to pass slightly less information through this interface and I brought it into line with the other architectures. | * [PATCH] x86: PARAVIRT: add hooks to intercept mm creation and destructionJeremy Fitzhardinge2007-05-021-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add hooks to allow a paravirt implementation to track the lifetime of an mm. Paravirtualization requires three hooks, but only two are needed in common code. They are: arch_dup_mmap, which is called when a new mmap is created at fork arch_exit_mmap, which is called when the last process reference to an mm is dropped, which typically happens on exit and exec. The third hook is activate_mm, which is called from the arch-specific activate_mm() macro/function, and so doesn't need stub versions for other architectures. It's called when an mm is first used. | * [PATCH] x86-64: Account for module percpu space separately from kernel percpuJeremy Fitzhardinge2007-05-021-14/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rather than using a single constant PERCPU_ENOUGH_ROOM, compute it as the sum of kernel_percpu + PERCPU_MODULE_RESERVE. This is now common to all architectures; if an architecture wants to set PERCPU_ENOUGH_ROOM to something special, then it may do so (ia64 is the only one which does).
