* [O_TMPFILE] it's still short a few helpers, but infrastructure should be OK ↵Al Viro2013-06-291-0/+13

* don't pass nameidata to ->create()Al Viro2012-07-141-1/+1
| | | | | | | | boolean "does it have to be exclusive?" flag is passed instead; Local filesystem should just ignore it - the object is guaranteed not to be there yet. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* stop passing nameidata to ->lookup()Al Viro2012-07-141-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | Just the flags; only NFS cares even about that, but there are legitimate uses for such argument. And getting rid of that completely would require splitting ->lookup() into a couple of methods (at least), so let's leave that alone for now... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* vfs: check i_nlink limits in vfs_{mkdir,rename_dir,link}Al Viro2012-03-201-13/+1
| | | | | | | | | New field of struct super_block - ->s_max_links. Maximal allowed value of ->i_nlink or 0; in the latter case all checks still need to be done in ->link/->mkdir/->rename instances. Note that this limit applies both to directoris and to non-directories. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* switch ->mknod() to umode_tAl Viro2012-01-031-1/+1

* switch ->create() to umode_tAl Viro2012-01-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | vfs_create() ignores everything outside of 16bit subset of its mode argument; switching it to umode_t is obviously equivalent and it's the only caller of the method Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* switch vfs_mkdir() and ->mkdir() to umode_tAl Viro2012-01-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | vfs_mkdir() gets int, but immediately drops everything that might not fit into umode_t and that's the only caller of ->mkdir()... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* minix: remove unnecessary dentry_unhash on rmdir, dir renameSage Weil2011-05-281-5/+0
| | | | | | | Minix has no issues with references to unlinked directories. Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* vfs: push dentry_unhash on rename_dir into file systemsSage Weil2011-05-261-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | Only a few file systems need this. Start by pushing it down into each rename method (except gfs2 and xfs) so that it can be dealt with on a per-fs basis. Acked-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* vfs: push dentry_unhash on rmdir into file systemsSage Weil2011-05-261-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | Only a few file systems need this. Start by pushing it down into each fs rmdir method (except gfs2 and xfs) so it can be dealt with on a per-fs basis. This does not change behavior for any in-tree file systems. Acked-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

* fs: dcache reduce branches in lookup pathNick Piggin2011-01-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Reduce some branches and memory accesses in dcache lookup by adding dentry flags to indicate common d_ops are set, rather than having to check them. This saves a pointer memory access (dentry->d_op) in common path lookup situations, and saves another pointer load and branch in cases where we have d_op but not the particular operation. Patched with: git grep -E '[.>]([[:space:]])*d_op([[:space:]])*=' | xargs sed -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)->d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\1, \2);/' -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)\.d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\&\1, \2);/' -i Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
* new helper: ihold()Al Viro2010-10-251-1/+1
| | | | | | Clones an existing reference to inode; caller must already hold one. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* minix: fix regression in minix_mkdir()Jorge Boncompte [DTI2]2010-09-091-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 9eed1fb721c ("minix: replace inode uid,gid,mode init with helper") broke directory creation on minix filesystems. Fix it by passing the needed mode flag to inode init helper. | | | | | | | | | This patch removes the !NO_TRUNCATE code that anyway required a manual editing of the code for being used. Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
* iget: stop the MINIX filesystem from using iget() and read_inode()David Howells2008-02-071-4/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Stop the MINIX filesystem from using iget() and read_inode(). Replace minix_read_inode() with minix_iget(), and call that instead of iget(). minix_iget() then uses iget_locked() directly and returns a proper error code instead of an inode in the event of an error. minix_fill_super() returns any error incurred when getting the root inode instead of EINVAL. * [PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 2Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. * [PATCH] r/o bind mounts: unlink: monitor i_nlinkDave Hansen2006-10-011-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When a filesystem decrements i_nlink to zero, it means that a write must be performed in order to drop the inode from the filesystem. We're shortly going to have keep filesystems from being remounted r/o between the time that this i_nlink decrement and that write occurs. So, add a little helper function to do the decrements. We'll tie into it in a bit to note when i_nlink hits zero. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
