* header cleaning: don't include smp_lock.h when not usedRandy Dunlap2007-05-081-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Remove includes of <linux/smp_lock.h> where it is not used/needed. Suggested by Al Viro. Builds cleanly on x86_64, i386, alpha, ia64, powerpc, sparc, sparc64, and arm (all 59 defconfigs). * [PATCH] pipe.c/fifo.c code cleanupsIngo Molnar2006-04-111-23/+26
| | | | | | | | | | more code cleanups after the macro conversion: - standardize on 'struct pipe_inode_info *pipe' variable names - introduce 'pipe' temporaries to reduce mass inode->i_pipe dereferencing Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@suse.de>
* [PATCH] get rid of the PIPE_*() macrosIngo Molnar2006-04-111-24/+24
| | | | | | | get rid of the PIPE_*() macros. Scripted transformation. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@suse.de>
* [PATCH] introduce a "kernel-internal pipe object" abstractionIngo Molnar2006-04-101-5/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | separate out the 'internal pipe object' abstraction, and make it usable to splice. This cleans up and fixes several aspects of the internal splice APIs and the pipe code: - pipes: the allocation and freeing of pipe_inode_info is now more symmetric and more streamlined with existing kernel practices. - splice: small micro-optimization: less pointer dereferencing in splice methods Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Update XFS for the ->splice_read/->splice_write changes. * [PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven2006-03-281-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* Simplify fifo_open() locking logicLinus Torvalds2006-03-071-6/+1
| | | | | | | | We don't do interruptible waits for the pipe mutex anywhere else any more either, so don't do it in fifo_open() either. Acked-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] mutex subsystem, semaphore to mutex: VFS, ->i_semJes Sorensen2006-01-091-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch converts the inode semaphore to a mutex. I have tested it on XFS and compiled as much as one can consider on an ia64. Anyway your luck with it might be different. Modified-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> (finished the conversion) Signed-off-by: Jes Sorensen <jes@sgi.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
