* staging: lustre: mdc: manage number of modify RPCs in flightGregoire Pichon2016-11-151-0/+37
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch is the main client part of a new feature that supports multiple modify metadata RPCs in parallel. Its goal is to improve metadata operations performance of a single client, while maintening the consistency of MDT reply reconstruction and MDT recovery mechanisms. It allows to manage the number of modify RPCs in flight within the client obd structure and to assign a virtual index (the tag) to each modify RPC to help server side cleaning of reply data. The mdc component uses this feature to send multiple modify RPCs in parallel. * staging: lustre: osc: Track number of "unstable" pages per oscPrakash Surya2016-04-281-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This change adds simple accounting hooks for "unstable" pages on a per OSC basis. Now, in addition to the per filesystem tracking, each OSC will maintain a running total of its unstable pages. These counters are exported through the proc interface, and can be read using the lctl command. For example: # Read number of unstable pages contained by each OSC lctl get_param osc.*.unstable_stats The motivation for this change is in anticipation of implementing a "soft sync" functionality, urging servers to commit these unstable pages to stable storage. The per OSC accounting allows a client to limit the soft sync request to only the OSCs which have outstanding unstable pages. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE. This promise never materialized. And unlikely will. We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case, especially on the border between fs and mm. Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much breakage to be doable. Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are not. The changes are pretty straight-forward: - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN}; - page_cache_get() -> get_page(); - page_cache_release() -> put_page(); This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files. I've called spatch for them manually. The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later. There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also will be addressed with the separate patch. virtual patch @@ expression E; @@ - E << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ expression E; @@ - E >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SIZE + PAGE_SIZE @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_MASK + PAGE_MASK @@ expression E; @@ - PAGE_CACHE_ALIGN(E) + PAGE_ALIGN(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_get(E) + get_page(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_release(E) + put_page(E) Signed-off-by: Kirill A. * | staging/lustre/clio: cl_lock simplificationJinshan Xiong2016-03-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In this patch, the cl_lock cache is eliminated. cl_lock is turned into a cacheless data container for the requirements of locks to complete the IO. cl_lock is created before I/O starts and destroyed when the I/O is complete. cl_lock depends on LDLM lock to fulfill lock semantics. LDLM lock is attached to cl_lock at OSC layer. LDLM lock is still cacheable. Two major methods are supported for cl_lock: clo_enqueue and clo_cancel. A cl_lock is enqueued by cl_lock_request(), which will call clo_enqueue() methods for each layer to enqueue the lock. At the LOV layer, if a cl_lock consists of multiple sub cl_locks, each sub locks will be enqueued correspondingly. At OSC layer, the lock enqueue request will tend to reuse cached LDLM lock; otherwise a new LDLM lock will have to be requested from OST side. cl_lock_cancel() must be called to release a cl_lock after use. clo_cancel() method will be called for each layer to release the resource held by this lock. At OSC layer, the reference count of LDLM lock, which is held at clo_enqueue time, is released. LDLM lock can only be canceled if there is no cl_lock using it. A simplified version of the semantic patch that makes these changes is as follows: (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/) // <smpl> @@ expression ptr,size; @@ - OBD_ALLOC(ptr,size) + ptr = kzalloc(size, GFP_NOFS) @@ expression ptr, size; @@ - OBD_FREE(ptr, size); + kfree(ptr); // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <Julia.Lawall@lip6.fr> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* staging: lustre: ldlm: Fix overlong linesAndreas Ruprecht2014-11-261-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | checkpatch complains about a number of lines which are over the 80 character line limit. This patch changes most of them to comply, the few remaining lines with warnings are not changed for readability reasons. * staging: lustre: remove top level ccflags variableGreg Kroah-Hartman2014-07-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We need to remove the ccflags from the Lustre code as it prevents individual object files from building properly in the kernel build system. It also hids the horrid mess that the Lustre include files are made up of. Start out by removing the toplevel ccflags variable pointing to drivers/staging/lustre/include/ as a valid include path. This requires the absolute include markings of a bunch of .h and .c files, which is also done here. * staging/lustre: replace semaphores with mutexesDmitry Eremin2014-04-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It's just optimization. The mutex subsystem is slightly faster and has better scalability for contended workloads. Remove the lustre_lock and it's accessor functions l_lock(), l_unlock(), l_lock_init(), and l_has_lock() since they have not been used by the code since Lustre 1.6.
