| * spi: Fix race condition in stop_queue()Vasily Khoruzhick2011-04-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There's a race condition in stop_queue() in some drivers - if drv_data->queue is empty, but drv_data->busy is still set (or opposite situation) stop_queue will return -EBUSY. So fix loop condition to check that both drv_data->queue is empty and drv_data->busy is not set. | | | | | | | | | | | Having conditional around the of_match_table and the of_node pointers turns out to make driver code use ugly #ifdef blocks. * spi/pxa2xx: Modify RX-Tresh instead of busy-loop for the remaining RX bytes.Sebastian Andrzej Siewior2010-12-021-17/+39
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | After all TX bytes are sent, the driver spins while the SPI core is busy and then it spins for a "short" period of time until RX bytes are available. On Sodavile the busy flag disappears pretty quick and after that it takes approx ~130ms (sometimes less but not much) until there are bytes available in the RX FIFO. This patch removes the busy loop and modifies the RX threshould so we get woken up once the remainings bytes arrived. * spi/pxa2xx: Add chipselect support for SodavilleSebastian Andrzej Siewior2010-12-021-25/+68
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The SPI core on Sodaville supports chip selects. Its configuration moved into the SSSR register at bit 0 and 1. Thus Sodaville can be hooked up with up to 4 devices. This patch ensures that the bits which are otherwiese reserved are only touched on Sodaville and not on any other PXAs. Also it makes sure that the status register does not lose the CS information while clearing the ROR bit. * arm/pxa2xx: reorgazine SSP and SPI header filesSebastian Andrzej Siewior2010-12-011-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The PXA-SPI driver relies on some files / defines which are arm specific and are within the ARM tree. The CE4100 SoC which is x86 has also the SPI core. This patch moves the ssp and spi files from arm/mach-pxa and plat-pxa to include/linux where the CE4100 can access them. This move got verified by building the following defconfigs: cm_x2xx_defconfig corgi_defconfig em_x270_defconfig ezx_defconfig imote2_defconfig pxa3xx_defconfig spitz_defconfig zeus_defconfig raumfeld_defconfig magician_defconfig Signed-off-by: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <bigeasy@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Dirk Brandewie <dirk.brandewie@gmail.com>

* include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move some common spi_setup() error checks into the SPI framework from the spi_master controller drivers: - Add a new "mode_bits" field to spi_master - Use that in spi_setup to validate the spi->mode value being requested. Setting this new field is now mandatory for any controller supporting more than vanilla SPI_MODE_0. - Update all spi_master drivers to: * Initialize that field * Remove current spi_setup() checks using that value. * | [ARM] pxa: move DMA registers definitions into <mach/dma.h>Eric Miao2009-03-091-2/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1. Driver code where pxa_request_dma() is called will most likely reference DMA registers as well, and it is really unnecessary to include pxa-regs.h just for this. Move the definitions into <mach/dma.h> and make relevant drivers include it instead of <mach/pxa-regs.h>. 2. Introduce DMAC_REGS_VIRT as the virtual address base for these DMA registers. This allows later processors to re-use the same IP while registers may start at different I/O address. Signed-off-by: Eric Miao <eric.miao@marvell.com>

* [ARM] Hide ISA DMA API when ISA_DMA_API is unsetRussell King2008-11-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | When ISA_DMA_API is unset, we're not implementing the ISA DMA API, so there's no point in publishing the prototypes via asm/dma.h, nor including the machine dependent parts of that API. This allows us to remove a lot of mach/dma.h files which don't contain any useful code. Unfortunately though, some platforms put their own private non-ISA definitions into mach/dma.h, so we leave these behind and fix the appropriate #include statments. * pxa2xx_spi: bugfix full duplex dma data corruptionNed Forrester2008-11-191-12/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fixes a data corruption bug in pxa2xx_spi.c when operating in full duplex mode with DMA and using buffers that overlap. SPI transmit and receive buffers are allowed to be the same or to overlap. However, this driver fails if such overlap is attempted in DMA mode because it maps the rx and tx buffers in the wrong order. By mapping DMA_FROM_DEVICE (read) before DMA_TO_DEVICE (write), it invalidates the cache before flushing it, thus discarding data which should have been transmitted. The patch corrects the order of mapping. This bug exists in all versions of pxa2xx_spi.c; similar bugs are in the drivers for two other SPI controllers (au1500, imx). A version of this patch has been tested on kernel 2.6.20 using verification of loopback data with: random transfer length, random bits-per-word, random positive offsets (both larger and smaller than transfer length) between the start of the rx and tx buffers, and varying clock rates. * pxa2xx_spi: dma bugfixesNed Forrester2008-09-131-14/+43
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fixes two DMA bugs in the pxa2xx_spi driver. The first bug is in all versions of this driver; the second was introduced in the 2.6.20 kernel, and prevents using the driver with chips like m25p16 flash (which can issue large DMA reads). 1. Zero length transfers are permitted for use to insert timing, but pxa2xx_spi.c will fail if this is requested in DMA mode. Fixed by using programmed I/O (PIO) mode for such transfers. 2. Transfers larger than 8191 are not permitted in DMA mode. A test for length rejects all large transfers regardless of DMA or PIO mode. Worked around by rejecting only large transfers with DMA mapped buffers, and forcing all other transfers larger than 8191 to use PIO mode. A rate limited warning is issued for DMA transfers forced to PIO mode. This patch should apply to all kernels back to and including 2.6.20; it was test patched against 2.6.20. An additional patch would be required for older kernels, but those versions are very buggy anyway. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fixes several chipselect bugs in the pxa2xx_spi driver. These bugs are in all versions of this driver and prevent using it with chips like m25p16 flash. 1. The spi_transfer.cs_change flag is handled too early: before spi_transfer.delay_usecs applies, thus making the delay ineffective at holding chip select. 2. spi_transfer.delay_usecs is ignored on the last transfer of a message (likewise not holding chipselect long enough). 3. If spi_transfer.cs_change is set on the last transfer, the chip select is always disabled, instead of the intended meaning: optionally holding chip select enabled for the next message. Those first three bugs were fixed with a relocation of delays and chip select de-assertions. 4. If a message has the cs_change flag set on the last transfer, and had the chip select stayed enabled as requested (see 3, above), it would not have been disabled if the next message is for a different chip. Fixed by dropping chip select regardless of cs_change at end of a message, if there is no next message or if the next message is for a different chip. This patch should apply to all kernels back to and including 2.6.20; it was test patched against 2.6.20. An additional patch would be required for older kernels, but those versions are very buggy anyway. * dma-mapping: add the device argument to dma_mapping_error()FUJITA Tomonori2008-07-261-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add per-device dma_mapping_ops support for CONFIG_X86_64 as POWER architecture does: This enables us to cleanly fix the Calgary IOMMU issue that some devices are not behind the IOMMU (http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/5/8/423). I think that per-device dma_mapping_ops support would be also helpful for KVM people to support PCI passthrough but Andi thinks that this makes it difficult to support the PCI passthrough (see the above thread). So I CC'ed this to KVM camp. Comments are appreciated. A pointer to dma_mapping_ops to struct dev_archdata is added. If the pointer is non NULL, DMA operations in asm/dma-mapping.h use it. If it's NULL, the system-wide dma_ops pointer is used as before. If it's useful for KVM people, I plan to implement a mechanism to register a hook called when a new pci (or dma capable) device is created (it works with hot plugging). It enables IOMMUs to set up an appropriate dma_mapping_ops per device. The major obstacle is that dma_mapping_error doesn't take a pointer to the device unlike other DMA operations. So x86 can't have dma_mapping_ops per device. Note all the POWER IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function so this is not a problem for POWER but x86 IOMMUs use different dma_mapping_error functions. The first patch adds the device argument to dma_mapping_error. The patch is trivial but large since it touches lots of drivers and dma-mapping.h in all the architecture. This patch: dma_mapping_error() doesn't take a pointer to the device unlike other DMA operations. So we can't have dma_mapping_ops per device. Note that POWER already has dma_mapping_ops per device but all the POWER IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function. x86 IOMMUs use device argument. * spi: pxa2xx_spi clock polarity fixNed Forrester2008-02-231-14/+27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fixes a sequencing bug in spi driver pxa2xx_spi.c in which the chip select for a transfer may be asserted before the clock polarity is set on the interface. As a result of this bug, the clock signal may have the wrong polarity at transfer start, so it may need to make an extra half transition before the intended clock/data signals begin. (This probably means all transfers are one bit out of sequence.) This only occurs on the first transfer following a change in clock polarity in systems using more than one more than one such polarity. The fix assures that the clock mode is properly set before asserting chip select. This bug was introduced in a patch merged on 2006/12/10, kernel 2.6.20. The patch defines an additional bit in: include/asm-arm/arch-pxa/regs-ssp.h for 2.6.25 and newer kernels but this addition must be made in: include/asm-arm/arch-pxa/pxa-regs.h for kernels between 2.6.20 and 2.6.24, inclusive Signed-off-by: Ned Forrester <nforrester@whoi.edu> Signed-off-by: David Brownell <dbrownell@users.sourceforge.net> Cc: Russell King <rmk@arm.linux.org.uk> Cc: <stable@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
* spi: remove more dev->power.power_state usageDavid Brownell2008-02-061-17/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | Remove some more references to dev->power.power_state. That field is overdue for removal, but we can't do that while it's still referenced in the kernel.
