* [SCSI] Remove SUGGEST flagsMartin K. Petersen2009-03-121-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | The SUGGEST_* flags in the SCSI command result have been out of fashion for a while and we don't actually use them in the error handling. Remove the remaining occurrences. * block: unify request timeout handlingJens Axboe2008-10-091-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Right now SCSI and others do their own command timeout handling. Move those bits to the block layer. Instead of having a timer per command, we try to be a bit more clever and simply have one per-queue. This avoids the overhead of having to tear down and setup a timer for each command, so it will result in a lot less timer fiddling. * [SCSI] ips: remove spurious cpu_to_leX on outX statementsJames Bottomley2008-04-071-16/+16
| | | | | | | | | These are completely wrong because both outX and writeX do an automatic reverse of their arguments if necessary, so having an extra cpu_to_leX gives us the wrong ordering on BE platforms again. * [SCSI] ips: sg chaining support to the path to non I/O commandsFUJITA Tomonori2008-04-071-8/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I overlooked ips_scmd_buf_write and ips_scmd_buf_read when I converted ips to use the data buffer accessors. ips is unlikely to use sg chaining (especially in this path) since a) this path is used only for non I/O commands (with little data transfer), b) ips's sg_tablesize is set to just 17. * [SCSI] aic7xxx_old, eata_pio, ips, libsas: don't zero out sense_buffer in ↵FUJITA Tomonori2008-01-231-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | queuecommand LLDs don't need to zero out scsi_cmnd::sense_buffer in queuecommand since scsi-ml does. This is a preparation of the future changes to allocate the sense_buffer only when necessary. Many LLDs zero out the sense_buffer before touching it on the error case. * | PCI: Change all drivers to use pci_device->revisionAuke Kok2007-07-111-8/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Instead of all drivers reading pci config space to get the revision ID, they can now use the pci_device->revision member. This exposes some issues where drivers where reading a word or a dword for the revision number, and adding useless error-handling around the read. Some drivers even just read it for no purpose of all. In devices where the revision ID is being copied over and used in what appears to be the equivalent of hotpath, I have left the copy code and the cached copy as not to influence the driver's performance. Compile tested with make all{yes,mod}config on x86_64 and i386. * IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells2006-10-051-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When the locking was changed in the eh code ips_eh_reset was changed so that it was a wraper around __ips_eh_reset and all ips_eh_reset does is grab the host lock and then calls __ips_eh_reset. * [SCSI] ServeRAID: prevent seeing DADSI devicesJack Hammer2006-01-311-12/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A critical thing the ServeRAID driver MUST do is hide the physical DASDI devices from the OS. It does this by intercepting the INQUIRY commands. In recent 2.6.15 testing, I discovered this to be failing. The cause was the driver assuming that the INQUIRY response data was in a simple single buffer, when it was actually a 1 element scatter gather list. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | IBM has finally agreed that the "Version Matching" between firmware and drivers ( and the resulting warning messages ) is no longer necessary. This patch will remove those functions from the ServeRAID driver. Signed-off-by: Jack Hammer <jack_hammer@adaptec.com> Signed-off-by: James Bottomley <James.Bottomley@SteelEye.com>

* [SCSI] ips: Fix initialization bug with kdumpJack Hammer2005-10-311-0/+93
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If I/O is active on the adapter, and an unexpected interrupt is pending during initialization, the driver blows it's brains out. Since the driver didn't initiate the I/O, the data in it's internal tables will contain NULL pointers. When this condition is detected, a "flush cache and reset" is performed. The flush cache allows any pending "lazy writes" that the adapter is processing to complete ( a "must have" for a RAID adapter ) and the reset puts the adapter back into a known, good state.
