* ixgb: remove irq_semJesse Brandeburg2008-03-261-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | ixgb can remove irq_sem by auditing all the call sites to make sure that each of them makes sure the adapter is in the correct state before re-enabling interrupts. after doing this to all of our other drivers it is becoming easier. * ixgb: add explicit state checkingJesse Brandeburg2008-03-261-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | In order to remove the irq_sem code we need to implement strict adapter state checking to prevent accidental double up or downs or resets. This code is largely copied from e1000/e1000e. * ixgb: fix sparse warningsStephen Hemminger2007-10-301-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | Fix sparse warnings in ixgb driver for net-2.6.24. Added a sparse fix for invalid declaration using non-constant value in ixgb_set_multi. Added a fix for the module param array index and allows int params in the array. --Auke Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Auke Kok <auke-jan.h.kok@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
* [NET]: Make NAPI polling independent of struct net_device objects.Stephen Hemminger2007-10-101-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Several devices have multiple independant RX queues per net device, and some have a single interrupt doorbell for several queues. In either case, it's easier to support layouts like that if the structure representing the poll is independant from the net device itself. The signature of the ->poll() call back goes from: int foo_poll(struct net_device *dev, int *budget) to int foo_poll(struct napi_struct *napi, int budget) The caller is returned the number of RX packets processed (or the number of "NAPI credits" consumed if you want to get abstract). The callee no longer messes around bumping dev->quota, *budget, etc. because that is all handled in the caller upon return. The napi_struct is to be embedded in the device driver private data structures. Furthermore, it is the driver's responsibility to disable all NAPI instances in it's ->stop() device close handler. Since the napi_struct is privatized into the driver's private data structures, only the driver knows how to get at all of the napi_struct instances it may have per-device. With lots of help and suggestions from Rusty Russell, Roland Dreier, Michael Chan, Jeff Garzik, and Jamal Hadi Salim. Bug fixes from Thomas Graf, Roland Dreier, Peter Zijlstra, Joseph Fannin, Scott Wood, Hans J. Koch, and Michael Chan. [ Ported to current tree and all drivers converted. Integrated Stephen's follow-on kerneldoc additions, and restored poll_list handling to the old style to fix mutual exclusion issues. -DaveM ] Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. * ixgb: don't print error if pci_enable_msi() fails, cleanup minor leakAuke Kok2007-05-171-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | pci_enable_msi calls can fail for normal operational reasons. Driver should not print an error message in that case. Fix a leak that leaves msi enabled if pci_request_irq fails. We can remove CONFIG_PCI_MSI ifdefs alltogether Signed-off-by: Auke Kok <auke-jan.h.kok@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>

* remove NETIF_F_TSO ifdeferyArjan van de Ven2007-02-051-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | Remove the NETIF_F_TSO #ifdef-ery in drivers/net; this was for old-old-2.4 compat (even current 2.4 has NETIF_F_TSO) but it's time to get rid of it by now. Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>

* ixgb: combine more rx descriptors to improve performanceJesse Brandeburg2006-09-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | We experimented with more descriptor buffer writebacks and found that values larger than 8 give HW problems, but 8 is safe and gives us some improved performance. Signed-off-by: Jesse Brandeburg <jesse.brandeburg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Auke Kok <auke-jan.h.kok@intel.com>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
