* mfd: max8925-i2c: Drop unnecessary staticJulia Lawall2017-09-051-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Drop static on a local variable, when the variable is initialized before any use, on every possible execution path through the function. The static has no benefit, and dropping it reduces the code size. The semantic patch that fixes this problem is as follows: (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/) // <smpl> @bad exists@ position p; identifier x; type T; @@ static T x@p; ... x = <+...x...+> @@ identifier x; expression e; type T; position p != bad.p; @@ -static T x@p; ... when != x when strict ?x = e; // </smpl> The change in code size is indicates by the following output from the size command. before: text data bss dec hex filename 2579 240 16 2835 b13 drivers/mfd/max8925-i2c.o after: text data bss dec hex filename 2531 240 8 2779 adb drivers/mfd/max8925-i2c.o Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <Julia.Lawall@lip6.fr> Acked-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: Lee Jones <lee.jones@linaro.org>
* mfd: max8925-i2c: Make it explicitly non-modularPaul Gortmaker2016-06-291-13/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of this code is: drivers/mfd/Kconfig: config MFD_MAX8925 drivers/mfd/Kconfig: bool "Maxim Semiconductor MAX8925 PMIC Support" ...meaning that it currently is not being built as a module by anyone. Lets remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only. Since module_init was not in use by this code, the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit. Also note that MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is a no-op for non-modular code. We also delete the MODULE_LICENSE tag etc. since all that information is already contained at the top of the file in the comments. * mfd: max8925: Fix possible NULL pointer dereference on i2c_new_dummy errorKrzysztof Kozlowski2014-03-191-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | During probe the driver allocates dummy I2C devices for RTC and ADC with i2c_new_dummy() but it does not check the return value of this calls. In case of error (i2c_new_device(): memory allocation failure or I2C address cannot be used) this function returns NULL which is later used by i2c_unregister_device(). If i2c_new_dummy() fails for RTC or ADC devices, fail also the probe for main MFD driver. * i2c: Remove all i2c_set_clientdata(client, NULL) in driversWolfram Sang2010-06-031-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I2C drivers can use the clientdata-pointer to point to private data. As I2C devices are not really unregistered, but merely detached from their driver, it used to be the drivers obligation to clear this pointer during remove() or a failed probe(). As a couple of drivers forgot to do this, it was agreed that it was cleaner if the i2c-core does this clearance when appropriate, as there is no guarantee for the lifetime of the clientdata-pointer after remove() anyhow. This feature was added to the core with commit e4a7b9b04de15f6b63da5ccdd373ffa3057a3681 to fix the faulty drivers. As there is no need anymore to clear the clientdata-pointer, remove all current occurrences in the drivers to simplify the code and prevent confusion. * mfd: Remove unneeded and dangerous clearing of clientdataWolfram Sang2010-05-281-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Unlike real i2c-devices which get detached from the driver, dummy-devices get truly unregistered. So, there has never been a need to clear the clientdata because the device will go away anyhow. For the occasions fixed here, clearing clientdata was even dangerous as the structure was freed already. * include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch.
