* tty: move obsolete and broken generic_serial drivers to ↵Greg Kroah-Hartman2011-02-221-844/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | drivers/staging/generic_serial/ As planned by Arnd Bergmann, this moves the following drivers to the drivers/staging/generic_serial directory where they will be removed after 2.6.41 if no one steps up to claim them. generic_serial rio ser_a2232 sx vme_scc Cc: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Alan Cox <alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> Cc: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
* include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. * headers: remove sched.h from interrupt.hAlexey Dobriyan2009-10-111-0/+1
| | | | | | | | After m68k's task_thread_info() doesn't refer to current, it's possible to remove sched.h from interrupt.h and not break m68k! Many thanks to Heiko Carstens for allowing this. Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com>

* tty: relock generic_serialAlan Cox2009-01-021-13/+24
| | | | | | | | | | | | Switch generic_serial to do port count locking via the tty_port structure ready for moving to a common port wait routine. Keep the old driver lock for internal calling so we don't risk messing up the drivers below until we are ready. * tty: Remove lots of NULL checksAlan Cox2008-10-131-21/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Many tty drivers contain 'can't happen' checks against NULL pointers passed in by the tty layer. These have never been possible to occur. * tty/serial: lay the foundations for the next set of reworksAlan Cox2008-04-301-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - Stop drivers calling their own flush method indirectly, it obfuscates code and it will change soon anyway - A few more lock_kernel paths temporarily needed in some driver internal waiting code - Remove private put_char method that does a write call for one char - we have that anyway - Most but not yet all of the termios copy under lock fixing (some has other dependencies to follow) - Note a few locking bugs in drivers found in the process - Kill remaining [ab]users of TIOCG/SSOFTCAR in the driver, these must go to fix the termios locking Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Cc: Jiri Slaby <jirislaby@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
* drivers: Remove unnecessary inclusions of asm/semaphore.hMatthew Wilcox2008-04-181-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | None of these files use any of the functionality promised by asm/semaphore.h. It's possible that they rely on it dragging in some unrelated header file, but I can't build all these files, so we'll have fix any build failures as they come up. * genericserial: remove bogus optimisation check and dead code pathsAlan Cox2007-07-161-117/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | We've been using the 'new locking' for a long time now so it seems pointless keeping the old one around. * [PATCH] generic_serial: fix decoding of baud rateDaniel Drake2007-03-271-7/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit d720bc4b8fc5d6d179ef094908d4fbb5e436ffad partially removed a private implementation of baud speed decoding. However it doesn't seem to be complete: after the speed is decoded, it is still being used as an index to a local speed table (array overrun, no doubt). This was found by Graham Murray who noticed it caused a 2.6.19 regression with the SX driver: https://bugs.gentoo.org/170554 Signed-off-by: Daniel Drake <dsd@gentoo.org> Acked-by: Alan Cox <alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> Cc: Russell King <rmk@arm.linux.org.uk> Cc: <stable@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

* [PATCH] tty: switch to ktermiosAlan Cox2006-12-081-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is the grungy swap all the occurrences in the right places patch that goes with the updates. At this point we have the same functionality as before (except that sgttyb() returns speeds not zero) and are ready to begin turning new stuff on providing nobody reports lots of bugs If you are a tty driver author converting an out of tree driver the only impact should be termios->ktermios name changes for the speed/property setting functions from your upper layers. If you are implementing your own TCGETS function before then your driver was broken already and its about to get a whole lot more painful for you so please fix it 8) Also fill in c_ispeed/ospeed on init for most devices, although the current code will do this for you anyway but I'd like eventually to lose that extra paranoia [akpm@osdl.org: bluetooth fix] [mp3@de.ibm.com: sclp fix] [mp3@de.ibm.com: warning fix for tty3270] [hugh@veritas.com: fix tty_ioctl powerpc build] [jdike@addtoit.com: uml: fix ->set_termios declaration] Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Peschke <mp3@de.ibm.com> Acked-by: Peter Oberparleiter <oberpar@de.ibm.com> Cc: Cornelia Huck <cornelia.huck@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Hugh Dickins <hugh@veritas.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Dike <jdike@addtoit.com> Cc: Paolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso <blaisorblade@yahoo.it> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

* [PATCH] generic_serial: remove private decoding of baud rate bitsAlan Cox2006-09-291-10/+1

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
