* genirq: Remove irq argument from irq flow handlersThomas Gleixner2015-09-163-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Most interrupt flow handlers do not use the irq argument. Those few which use it can retrieve the irq number from the irq descriptor. Remove the argument. Search and replace was done with coccinelle and some extra helper scripts around it. Thanks to Julia for her help! The changes outside of the typical drivers/nvdimm/ and drivers/acpi/nfit.[ch] paths are related to the removal of IORESOURCE_CACHEABLE, the introduction of memremap(), and the introduction of ZONE_DEVICE + devm_memremap_pages(). Summary: - Introduce ZONE_DEVICE and devm_memremap_pages() as a generic mechanism for adding device-driver-discovered memory regions to the kernel's direct map. This facility is used by the pmem driver to enable pfn_to_page() operations on the page frames returned by DAX ('direct_access' in 'struct block_device_operations'). For now, the 'memmap' allocation for these "device" pages comes from "System RAM". Support for allocating the memmap from device memory will arrive in a later kernel. - Introduce memremap() to replace usages of ioremap_cache() and ioremap_wt(). memremap() drops the __iomem annotation for these mappings to memory that do not have i/o side effects. The replacement of ioremap_cache() with memremap() is limited to the pmem driver to ease merging the api change in v4.3. Completion of the conversion is targeted for v4.4. - Similar to the usage of memcpy_to_pmem() + wmb_pmem() in the pmem driver, update the VFS DAX implementation and PMEM api to provide persistence guarantees for kernel operations on a DAX mapping. - Convert the ACPI NFIT 'BLK' driver to map the block apertures as cacheable to improve performance. - Miscellaneous updates and fixes to libnvdimm including support for issuing "address range scrub" commands, clarifying the optimal 'sector size' of pmem devices, a clarification of the usage of the ACPI '_STA' (status) property for DIMM devices, and other minor fixes" * tag 'libnvdimm-for-4.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nvdimm/nvdimm: (34 commits) libnvdimm, pmem: direct map legacy pmem by default libnvdimm, pmem: 'struct page' for pmem libnvdimm, pfn: 'struct page' provider infrastructure x86, pmem: clarify that ARCH_HAS_PMEM_API implies PMEM mapped WB add devm_memremap_pages mm: ZONE_DEVICE for "device memory" mm: move __phys_to_pfn and __pfn_to_phys to asm/generic/memory_model.h dax: drop size parameter to ->direct_access() nd_blk: change aperture mapping from WC to WB nvdimm: change to use generic kvfree() pmem, dax: have direct_access use __pmem annotation dax: update I/O path to do proper PMEM flushing pmem: add copy_from_iter_pmem() and clear_pmem() pmem, x86: clean up conditional pmem includes pmem: remove layer when calling arch_has_wmb_pmem() pmem, x86: move x86 PMEM API to new pmem.h header libnvdimm, e820: make CONFIG_X86_PMEM_LEGACY a tristate option pmem: switch to devm_ allocations devres: add devm_memremap libnvdimm, btt: write and validate parent_uuid ...
| * cleanup IORESOURCE_CACHEABLE vs ioremap()Dan Williams2015-08-101-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Quoting Arnd: I was thinking the opposite approach and basically removing all uses of IORESOURCE_CACHEABLE from the kernel. There are only a handful of them.and we can probably replace them all with hardcoded ioremap_cached() calls in the cases they are actually useful. All existing usages of IORESOURCE_CACHEABLE call ioremap() instead of ioremap_nocache() if the resource is cacheable, however ioremap() is uncached by default. Clearly none of the existing usages care about the cacheability. Particularly devm_ioremap_resource() never worked as advertised since it always fell back to plain ioremap(). Clean this up as the new direction we want is to convert ioremap_<type>() usages to memremap(..., flags). | |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since we've already stepped away from ENABLE is a JMP and DISABLE is a NOP with the branch_default bits, and are going to make it even worse, rename it to make it all clearer. This way we don't mix multiple levels of logic attributes, but have a plain 'physical' name for what the current instruction patching status of a jump label is. * | | sparc: use for_each_sg()Akinobu Mita2015-06-241-3/+5
| |/ |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This replaces the plain loop over the sglist array with for_each_sg() macro which consists of sg_next() function calls. Since sparc does select ARCH_HAS_SG_CHAIN, it is necessary to use for_each_sg() in order to loop over each sg element. This also help find problems with drivers that do not properly initialize their sg tables when CONFIG_DEBUG_SG is enabled. Signed-off-by: Akinobu Mita <akinobu.mita@gmail.com> Cc: "David S. * | sparc: Resolve conflict between sparc v9 and M7 on usage of bit 9 of TTEKhalid Aziz2015-05-313-0/+28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | sparc: Resolve conflict between sparc v9 and M7 on usage of bit 9 of TTE Bit 9 of TTE is CV (Cacheable in V-cache) on sparc v9 processor while the same bit 9 is MCDE (Memory Corruption Detection Enable) on M7 processor. This creates a conflicting usage of the same bit. Kernel sets TTE.cv bit on all pages for sun4v architecture which works well for sparc v9 but enables memory corruption detection on M7 processor which is not the intent. This patch adds code to determine if kernel is running on M7 processor and takes steps to not enable memory corruption detection in TTE erroneously. The code was handling an allocation failure and propagated it properly up the callchain so it is not clear why it is needed. Dave has clarified the intention when I tried to remove the flag as not being necessary: : It is a serious failure. : : If we miss an MDESC update due to this allocation failure, the update : is not an event which gets retransmitted so we will lose the updated : machine description forever. : : We really need this allocation to succeed. So add a comment to clarify the nofail flag and get rid of the failure check because __GFP_NOFAIL allocation doesn't fail. Most callers assigned resources to devices after pci_scan_root_bus() returns, which may be after drivers have claimed the devices. This is incorrect; the PCI core should not change device resources while a driver is managing the device. Remove pci_bus_add_devices() from pci_scan_root_bus() and do it after any resource assignment in the callers. Note that ARM's pci_common_init_dev() already called pci_bus_add_devices() after pci_scan_root_bus(), so we only need to remove the first call: pci_common_init_dev pcibios_init_hw pci_scan_root_bus pci_bus_add_devices # first call pci_bus_assign_resources pci_bus_add_devices # second call [bhelgaas: changelog, drop "root_bus" var in alpha common_init_pci(), return failure earlier in mn10300, add "return" in x86 pcibios_scan_root(), return early if xtensa platform_pcibios_fixup() fails] Signed-off-by: Yijing Wang <wangyijing@huawei.com> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com> CC: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> CC: Ivan Kokshaysky <ink@jurassic.park.msu.ru> CC: Matt Turner <mattst88@gmail.com> CC: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> CC: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> CC: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu> CC: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> CC: Koichi Yasutake <yasutake.koichi@jp.panasonic.com> CC: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> CC: "David S. | * | | PCI: Assign resources before drivers claim devices (pci_scan_bus())Yijing Wang2015-03-121-0/+4

Most callers assigned resources to devices after pci_scan_bus() returns, which may be after drivers have claimed the devices. This is incorrect; the PCI core should not change device resources while a driver is managing the device. Remove pci_bus_add_devices() from pci_scan_bus() and do it after any resource assignment in the callers. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While cleaning up some clocksource code, I noticed the time_32 implementation uses the clocksource_hz2mult() helper, but doesn't use the clocksource_register_hz() method. I don't believe the Sparc clocksource is a default clocksource, so we shouldn't need to self-define the mult/shift pair. So convert the time_32.c implementation to use clocksource_register_hz(). However, there are a few cases where we need to self-define our mult/shift values, so switch the function to a more obviously internal __clocksource_register() name, and consolidate much of the internal logic so we don't have duplication. David Ahern reported that d63e2e1f3df9 breaks booting on an 8-socket T5 sparc system. He also verified that the system boots with d63e2e1f3df9 reverted. Yinghai has some fixes, but they need a little more polishing than we can do before v4.0.
