* | PM: Remove sysdev suspend, resume and shutdown operationsRafael J. Wysocki2011-05-111-1/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | Since suspend, resume and shutdown operations in struct sysdev_class and struct sysdev_driver are not used any more, remove them. Also drop sysdev_suspend(), sysdev_resume() and sysdev_shutdown() used for executing those operations and modify all of their users accordingly. This reduces kernel code size quite a bit and reduces its complexity. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl> Acked-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>

* | bitops: introduce CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_BIT_LEAkinobu Mita2011-03-231-0/+3
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This introduces CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_BIT_LE to tell whether to use generic implementation of find_*_bit_le() in lib/find_next_bit.c or not. For now we select CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_BIT_LE for all architectures which enable CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_NEXT_BIT. But m68knommu wants to define own faster find_next_zero_bit_le() and continues using generic find_next_{,zero_}bit(). * | kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERTDavid Rientjes2011-01-201-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it. | |/ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are still quite a number of MFD and GPIO expander drivers that are using the old irq_chip APIs that haven't had a chance to update during the .37 cycle, resulting in allyes/modconfig errors on some configurations. Mark Brown has done most of the legwork to get these fixed up in .38, so this should just be a .37 stop-gap that we can drop at the end of the .38 merge window. | * | | sh: machvec IO death.Paul Mundt2010-11-011-1/+2
| | |/ | |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This takes a bit of a sledgehammer to the machvec I/O routines. The iomem case requires no special casing and so can just be dropped outright. This only leaves the ioport casing for PCI and SuperIO mangling. With the SuperIO case going through the standard ioport mapping, it's possible to replace everything with generic routines. With this done the standard I/O routines are tidied up and NO_IOPORT now gets default-enabled for the vast majority of boards. Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>

It is most useful for NMI code that needs to interact with the rest of the system -- like wakeup a task to drain buffers. Perf currently has such a mechanism, so extract that and provide it as a generic feature, independent of perf so that others may also benefit. The IRQ context callback is generated through self-IPIs where possible, or on architectures like powerpc the decrementer (the built-in timer facility) is set to generate an interrupt immediately. Architectures that don't have anything like this get to do with a callback from the timer tick. These architectures can call irq_work_run() at the tail of any IRQ handlers that might enqueue such work (like the perf IRQ handler) to avoid undue latencies in processing the work. * | | | sh: oprofile: Use perf-events oprofile backendMatt Fleming2010-10-111-0/+13
| |_|/ |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that we've got a generic perf-events based oprofile backend we might as well make use of it seeing as SH doesn't do anything special with its oprofile backend. Also introduce a new CONFIG_HW_PERF_EVENTS symbol so that we can fallback to using the timer interrupt for oprofile if the CPU doesn't support perf events. Also, to avoid a section mismatch warning we need to annotate oprofile_arch_exit() with an __exit marker. | * sh: support for platforms without PIO.Paul Mundt2010-06-021-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This extends some of the existing special casing for HAS_IOPORT platforms and gets it to the point where platforms can begin to conditionally select it. The major changes here are that the PIO routines themselves go away completely, including all of the machvec port mapping wrappers. With this in place it's possible for any non-machvec abusing platform to disable PIO completely. At present this is left as an opt-in until the abusers are the odd ones out instead of the majority. * | sh: add romImage MMCIF boot for sh7724 and Ecovec V2Magnus Damm2010-05-311-0/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch is V2 of the MMCIF romImage boot support for sh7724 and the Ecovec board. With this patch applied and CONFIG_ROMIMAGE_MMCIF selected the romImage kernel image can be written to a MMC card and booted directly by the sh7724 cpu.
