* [SCSI] zfcp: Remove duplicated code for debug timestampsChristof Schmitt2009-09-051-7/+1
| | | | | | | | | | The timestamp calculation used for s390dbf output is the same in a private zfcp function and in debug.c. Replace both with a common inline function. * [S390] Fix a lot of sparse warnings.Heiko Carstens2008-04-171-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Most noteable part of this commit is the new local header file entry.h which contains all the function declarations of functions that get only called from asm code or are arch internal. That way we can avoid extern declarations in C files. This is more or less the same that was done for sparc64. * [PATCH] sysctl: remove insert_at_head from register_sysctlEric W. Biederman2007-02-141-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name. Which is pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented. I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register duplicate sysctl entries. So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future enhancments harder. Signed-off-by: Eric W. * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 2Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. * [PATCH] inode_diet: Replace inode.u.generic_ip with inode.i_privateTheodore Ts'o2006-09-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The following patches reduce the size of the VFS inode structure by 28 bytes on a UP x86. (It would be more on an x86_64 system). This is a 10% reduction in the inode size on a UP kernel that is configured in a production mode (i.e., with no spinlock or other debugging functions enabled; if you want to save memory taken up by in-core inodes, the first thing you should do is disable the debugging options; they are responsible for a huge amount of bloat in the VFS inode structure). This patch: The filesystem or device-specific pointer in the inode is inside a union, which is pretty pointless given that all 30+ users of this field have been using the void pointer. Get rid of the union and rename it to i_private, with a comment to explain who is allowed to use the void pointer. This is just a cleanup, but it allows us to reuse the union 'u' for something something where the union will actually be used. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | debug feature changes/bug fixes: - Use get_clock() function instead of private inline assembly. - Use 'struct timeval' instead of 'struct timespec' for call to tod_to_timeval(). * [PATCH] s390: debug feature changesMichael Holzheu2005-06-251-285/+535
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the memory allocation method for the s390 debug feature. Trace buffers had been allocated using the get_free_pages() function before. Therefore it was not possible to get big memory areas in a running system due to memory fragmentation. Now the trace buffers are subdivided into several subbuffers with pagesize. Therefore it is now possible to allocate more memory for the trace buffers and more trace records can be written. In addition to that, dynamic specification of the size of the trace buffers is implemented. It is now possible to change the size of a trace buffer using a new debugfs file instance. When writing a number into this file, the trace buffer size is changed to 'number * pagesize'. In the past all the traces could be obtained from userspace by accessing files in the "proc" filesystem. Now with debugfs we have a new filesystem which should be used for debugging purposes. This patch moves the debug feature from procfs to debugfs. Since the interface of debug_register() changed, all device drivers, which use the debug feature had to be adjusted. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
