* [PATCH] spin/rwlock init cleanupsIngo Molnar2006-06-271-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | locking init cleanups: - convert " = SPIN_LOCK_UNLOCKED" to spin_lock_init() or DEFINE_SPINLOCK() - convert rwlocks in a similar manner this patch was generated automatically. Motivation: - cleanliness - lockdep needs control of lock initialization, which the open-coded variants do not give - it's also useful for -rt and for lock debugging in general Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] node hotplug: register cpu: remove node structKAMEZAWA Hiroyuki2006-06-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With Goto-san's patch, we can add new pgdat/node at runtime. I'm now considering node-hot-add with cpu + memory on ACPI. I found acpi container, which describes node, could evaluate cpu before memory. This means cpu-hot-add occurs before memory hot add. In most part, cpu-hot-add doesn't depend on node hot add. But register_cpu(), which creates symbolic link from node to cpu, requires that node should be onlined before register_cpu(). When a node is onlined, its pgdat should be there. This patch-set holds off creating symbolic link from node to cpu until node is onlined. This removes node arguments from register_cpu(). Now, register_cpu() requires 'struct node' as its argument. But the array of struct node is now unified in driver/base/node.c now (By Goto's node hotplug patch). We can get struct node in generic way. So, this argument is not necessary now. This patch also guarantees add cpu under node only when node is onlined. It is necessary for node-hot-add vs. cpu-hot-add patch following this. Moreover, register_cpu calculates cpu->node_id by cpu_to_node() without regard to its 'struct node *root' argument. This patch removes it. Also modify callers of register_cpu()/unregister_cpu, whose args are changed by register-cpu-remove-node-struct patch. * [PATCH] VFS: Permit filesystem to perform statfs with a known root dentryDavid Howells2006-06-231-6/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Give the statfs superblock operation a dentry pointer rather than a superblock pointer. This complements the get_sb() patch. That reduced the significance of sb->s_root, allowing NFS to place a fake root there. However, NFS does require a dentry to use as a target for the statfs operation. This permits the root in the vfsmount to be used instead. linux/mount.h has been added where necessary to make allyesconfig build successfully. Interest has also been expressed for use with the FUSE and XFS filesystems. * [MIPS] Cleanup memory managment initialization.Ralf Baechle2006-06-191-13/+43
| | | | | | | | | | Historically plat_mem_setup did the entire platform initialization. This was rather impractical because it meant plat_mem_setup had to get away without any kind of memory allocator. To keep old code from breaking plat_setup was just renamed to plat_setup and a second platform initialization hook for anything else was introduced. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org>

| | | | | | | | | The struct mips_fpu_soft_struct and mips_fpu_hard_struct are completely same now and the kernel fpu emulator assumes that. * [MIPS] Fix sparsemem support.Chad Reese2006-06-061-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Move memory_present() in arch/mips/kernel/setup.c. When using sparsemem extreme, this function does an allocate for bootmem. This would always fail since init_bootmem hasn't been called yet. Move memory_present after free_bootmem. This only marks actual memory ranges as present instead of the entire address space. * [MIPS] Use generic DWARF_DEBUGAtsushi Nemoto2006-06-011-10/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | When debugging a kernel compiled by gcc 4.1 with gdb 6.4, gdb could not show filename, linenumber, etc. It seems fixed if I used generic DWARF_DEBUG macro. Although gcc 3.x seems work without this change, it would be better to use the generic macro unless there were something MIPS specific. * [MIPS] Fix branch emulation for floating-point exceptions.Ralf Baechle2006-04-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | In the branch emulation for floating-point exceptions, __compute_return_epc must determine for bc1f et al which condition code bit to test. This is based on bits <4:2> of the rt field. The switch statement to distinguish bc1f et al needs to use only the two low bits of rt, but the old code tests on the whole rt field. This patch masks off the proper bits. Signed-off-by: Win Treese <treese@acm.org> Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org>

| | | | | | | | | | | | Saves like 1,600 lines of code, is way easier to debug, compilers frequently do a better job than the cut and paste type of handlers many boards had. And finally having all the stuff done in a single place also means alot of bug potencial for the MT ASE is gone. The only surviving handler in assembler is the DECstation one; I hope Maciej will rewrite it. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org>

* [PATCH] No arch-specific strpbrk implementationsKyle McMartin2006-04-111-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While cleaning up parisc_ksyms.c earlier, I noticed that strpbrk wasn't being exported from lib/string.c. Investigating further, I noticed a changeset that removed its export and added it to _ksyms.c on a few more architectures. The justification was that "other arches do it." I think this is wrong, since no architecture currently defines __HAVE_ARCH_STRPBRK, there's no reason for any of them to be exporting it themselves. Therefore, consolidate the export to lib/string.c.
