| * ia64: replace ZONE_DMA with ZONE_DMA32Christoph Hellwig2018-01-151-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ia64 uses ZONE_DMA for allocations below 32-bits. These days we name the zone for that ZONE_DMA32, which will allow to use the dma-direct and generic swiotlb code as-is, so rename it. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | And unlike the other helpers we don't require a <asm/dma-direct.h> as this helper is a special case for ia64 only, and this keeps it as simple as possible. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de>
* | Construct init thread stack in the linker script rather than by unionDavid Howells2018-01-091-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Construct the init thread stack in the linker script rather than doing it by means of a union so that ia64's init_task.c can be got rid of. The following symbols are then made available from INIT_TASK_DATA() linker script macro: init_thread_union init_stack INIT_TASK_DATA() also expands the region to THREAD_SIZE to accommodate the size of the init stack. init_thread_union is given its own section so that it can be placed into the stack space in the right order. I'm assuming that the ia64 ordering is correct and that the task_struct is first and the thread_info second. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | John Stultz provided the outline for this patch back in May 2014 here: http://patches.linaro.org/patch/30501/ but I let this sit on the shelf for too long and in the intervening years almost every field in "struct timekeeper" was changed. So this is almost completely different from his original. Though the key change in arch/ia64/kernel/fsys.S remains the same. The core logic change with the updated vsyscall method is that we preserve the base nanosecond value in shifted nanoseconds, which allows us to avoid truncating and rounding up to the next nanosecond every tick to avoid inconsistencies. Thus the logic moved from nsec = ((cycle_delta * mult)>>shift) + base_nsec; to nsec = ((cycle_delta * mult) + base_snsec) >> shift; Cc: John Stultz <john.stultz@linaro.org> Cc: linux-ia64@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>
* | License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman2017-11-021-0/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. The big news is the completion of the chardev ABI which I'm very happy about and apart from that it's an ordinary, quite busy cycle. The details are below. The patches are tested in linux-next for some time, patches to other subsystem mostly have ACKs. I got overly ambitious with configureing lines as input for IRQ lines but it turns out that some controllers have their interrupt-enable and input-enabling in orthogonal settings so the assumption that all IRQ lines are input lines does not hold. Oh well, revert and back to the drawing board with that. Core changes: - The big item is of course the completion of the character device ABI. It has now replaced and surpassed the former unmaintainable sysfs ABI: we can now hammer (bitbang) individual lines or sets of lines and read individual lines or sets of lines from userspace, and we can also register to listen to GPIO events from userspace. As a tie-in we have two new tools in tools/gpio: gpio-hammer and gpio-event-mon that illustrate the proper use of the new ABI. As someone said: the wild west days of GPIO are now over. - Continued to remove the pointless ARCH_[WANT_OPTIONAL|REQUIRE]_GPIOLIB Kconfig symbols. I'm patching hexagon, openrisc, powerpc, sh, unicore, ia64 and microblaze. These are either ACKed by their maintainers or patched anyways after a grace period and no response from maintainers. Some archs (ARM) come in from their trees, and others (x86) are still not fixed, so I might send a second pull request to root it out later in this merge window, or just defer to v4.9. - The GPIO tools are moved to the tools build system. New drivers: - New driver for the MAX77620/MAX20024. - New driver for the Intel Merrifield. - Enabled PCA953x for the TI PCA9536. - Enabled PCA953x for the Intel Edison. - Enabled R8A7792 in the RCAR driver. Driver improvements: - The STMPE and F7188x now supports the .get_direction() callback. - The Xilinx driver supports setting multiple lines at once. - ACPI support for the Vulcan GPIO controller. - The MMIO GPIO driver supports device tree probing. - The Acer One 10 is supported through the _DEP ACPI attribute. Cleanups: - A major cleanup of the OF/DT support code. It is way easier to read and understand now, probably this improves performance too. - Drop a few redundant .owner assignments. - Remove CLPS711x boardfile support: we are 100% DT" * tag 'gpio-v4.8-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio: (67 commits) MAINTAINERS: Add INTEL MERRIFIELD GPIO entry gpio: dwapb: add missing fwnode_handle_put() in dwapb_gpio_get_pdata() gpio: merrifield: Protect irq_ack() and gpio_set() by lock gpio: merrifield: Introduce GPIO driver to support Merrifield gpio: intel-mid: Make it depend to X86_INTEL_MID gpio: intel-mid: Sort header block alphabetically gpio: intel-mid: Remove potentially harmful code gpio: rcar: add R8A7792 support gpiolib: remove duplicated include from gpiolib.c Revert "gpio: convince line to become input in irq helper" gpiolib: of_find_gpio(): Don't discard errors gpio: of: Allow overriding the device node gpio: free handles in fringe cases gpio: tps65218: Add platform_device_id table gpio: max77620: get gpio value based on direction gpio: lynxpoint: avoid potential warning on error path tools/gpio: add install section tools/gpio: move to tools buildsystem gpio: intel-mid: switch to devm_gpiochip_add_data() gpio: 74x164: Use spi_write() helper instead of open coding ...

* | Clarify naming of thread info/stack allocatorsLinus Torvalds2016-06-241-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We've had the thread info allocated together with the thread stack for most architectures for a long time (since the thread_info was split off from the task struct), but that is about to change. But the patches that move the thread info to be off-stack (and a part of the task struct instead) made it clear how confused the allocator and freeing functions are. Because the common case was that we share an allocation with the thread stack and the thread_info, the two pointers were identical. That identity then meant that we would have things like ti = alloc_thread_info_node(tsk, node); ... tsk->stack = ti; which certainly _worked_ (since stack and thread_info have the same value), but is rather confusing: why are we assigning a thread_info to the stack? And if we move the thread_info away, the "confusing" code just gets to be entirely bogus. So remove all this confusion, and make it clear that we are doing the stack allocation by renaming and clarifying the function names to be about the stack. The fact that the thread_info then shares the allocation is an implementation detail, and not really about the allocation itself. This is a pure renaming and type fix: we pass in the same pointer, it's just that we clarify what the pointer means. The ia64 code that actually only has one single allocation (for all of task_struct, thread_info and kernel thread stack) now looks a bit odd, but since "tsk->stack" is actually not even used there, that oddity doesn't matter. It would be a separate thing to clean that up, I intentionally left the ia64 changes as a pure brute-force renaming and type change. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are two kexec load syscalls, kexec_load another and kexec_file_load. kexec_file_load has been splited as kernel/kexec_file.c. In this patch I split kexec_load syscall code to kernel/kexec.c. And add a new kconfig option KEXEC_CORE, so we can disable kexec_load and use kexec_file_load only, or vice verse. The original requirement is from Ted Ts'o, he want kexec kernel signature being checked with CONFIG_KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG enabled. But kexec-tools use kexec_load syscall can bypass the checking. Vivek Goyal proposed to create a common kconfig option so user can compile in only one syscall for loading kexec kernel. KEXEC/KEXEC_FILE selects KEXEC_CORE so that old config files still work. Because there's general code need CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE, so I updated all the architecture Kconfig with a new option KEXEC_CORE, and let KEXEC selects KEXEC_CORE in arch Kconfig. Also updated general kernel code with to kexec_load syscall. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: coding-style fixes] Signed-off-by: Dave Young <dyoung@redhat.com> Cc: Eric W. We don't support any peripherals yet, so it's fairly limited in scope: - MEMORY init (UEFI) - ACPI discovery (RSDP via UEFI) - CPU init (FADT) - GIC init (MADT) - SMP boot (MADT + PSCI) - ACPI Kconfig options (dependent on EXPERT) ACPI for arm64 has been in development for a while now and hardware has been available that can boot with either FDT or ACPI tables. This has been made possible by both changes to the ACPI spec to cater for ARM-based machines (known as "hardware-reduced" in ACPI parlance) but also a Linaro-driven effort to get this supported on top of the Linux kernel. This pull request is the result of that work. These changes allow us to initialise the CPUs, interrupt controller, and timers via ACPI tables, with memory information and cmdline coming from EFI. We don't support a hybrid ACPI/FDT scheme. Of course, there is still plenty of work to do (a serial console would be nice!) but I expect that to happen on a per-driver basis after this core series has been merged. Anyway, the diff stat here is fairly horrible, but splitting this up and merging it via all the different subsystems would have been extremely painful. Instead, we've got all the relevant Acks in place and I've not seen anything other than trivial (Kconfig) conflicts in -next (for completeness, I've included my resolution below). Nearly half of the insertions fall under Documentation/. So, we'll see how this goes. There will be one more "CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME removal" batch after this one, because some new uses of it have been introduced during the current merge window, but that should be sufficient to finally get rid of it. - Make the ACPI EC driver more robust against race conditions related to GPE handler installation failures (Lv Zheng). - Prevent the ACPI device PM core code from attempting to disable GPEs that it has not enabled which confuses ACPICA and makes it report errors unnecessarily (Rafael J Wysocki). - Add a "force" command line switch to the intel_pstate driver to make it possible to override the blacklisting of some systems in that driver if needed (Ethan Zhao). - Improve intel_pstate code documentation and add a MAINTAINERS entry for it (Kristen Carlson Accardi). - Make the ACPI fan driver create cooling device interfaces witn names that reflect the IDs of the ACPI device objects they are associated with, except for "generic" ACPI fans (PNP ID "PNP0C0B"). * | firmware/dmi_scan: generalize for use by other archsArd Biesheuvel2014-01-231-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes a couple of changes to the SMBIOS/DMI scanning code so it can be used on other archs (such as ARM and arm64): (a) wrap the calls to ioremap()/iounmap(), this allows the use of a flavor of ioremap() more suitable for random unaligned access; (b) allow the non-EFI fallback probe into hardcoded physical address 0xF0000 to be disabled. Since there's sometimes a dependency on device-tree changes, there's also a fair amount of those in this branch. Pieces worth mentioning are: - Mbus driver for Marvell platforms, allowing kernel configuration and resource allocation of on-chip peripherals. - Enablement of the mbus infrastructure from Marvell PCI-e drivers. - Preparation of MSI support for Marvell platforms. - Addition of new PCI-e host controller driver for Tegra platforms - Some churn caused by sharing of macro names between i.MX 6Q and 6DL platforms in the device tree sources and header files. - Various suspend/PM updates for Tegra, including LP1 support. - Versatile Express support for MCPM, part of big little support. - Allwinner platform support for A20 and A31 SoCs (dual and quad Cortex-A7) - OMAP2+ support for DRA7, a new Cortex-A15-based SoC. The code that touches other architectures are patches moving MSI arch-specific functions over to weak symbols and removal of ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI, acked by PCI maintainers" * tag 'soc-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc: (266 commits) tegra-cpuidle: provide stub when !CONFIG_CPU_IDLE PCI: tegra: replace devm_request_and_ioremap by devm_ioremap_resource ARM: tegra: Drop ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI and sort list ARM: dts: vf610-twr: enable i2c0 device ARM: dts: i.MX51: Add one more I2C2 pinmux entry ARM: dts: i.MX51: Move pins configuration under "iomuxc" label ARM: dtsi: imx6qdl-sabresd: Add USB OTG vbus pin to pinctrl_hog ARM: dtsi: imx6qdl-sabresd: Add USB host 1 VBUS regulator ARM: dts: imx27-phytec-phycore-som: Enable AUDMUX ARM: dts: i.MX27: Disable AUDMUX in the template ARM: dts: wandboard: Add support for SDIO bcm4329 ARM: i.MX5 clocks: Remove optional clock setup (CKIH1) from i.MX51 template ARM: dts: imx53-qsb: Make USBH1 functional ARM i.MX6Q: dts: Enable I2C1 with EEPROM and PMIC on Phytec phyFLEX-i.MX6 Ouad module ARM i.MX6Q: dts: Enable SPI NOR flash on Phytec phyFLEX-i.MX6 Ouad module ARM: dts: imx6qdl-sabresd: Add touchscreen support ARM: imx: add ocram clock for imx53 ARM: dts: imx: ocram size is different between imx6q and imx6dl ARM: dts: imx27-phytec-phycore-som: Fix regulator settings ARM: dts: i.MX27: Remove clock name from CPU node ...
| * PCI: remove ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI kconfig optionThomas Petazzoni2013-08-121-1/+0

For this reason, the ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI hidden kconfig boolean becomes useless, and this patch gets rid of it.
