| * | PCI: Add BAR index argument to pci_mmap_page_range()David Woodhouse2017-04-201-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In all cases we know which BAR it is. Passing it in means that arch code (or generic code; watch this space) won't have to go looking for it again. Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw@amazon.co.uk> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com>

Merging it now will make x86 5-level paging enabling in v4.12 easier. The first patch is actually x86-specific: detect 5-level paging support. It boils down to single define. The rest of patchset converts Linux MMU abstraction from 4- to 5-level paging. Enabling of new abstraction in most cases requires adding single line of code in arch-specific code. The rest is taken care by asm-generic/. Changes to mm/ code are mostly mechanical: add support for new page table level -- p4d_t -- where we deal with pud_t now. v2: - fix build on microblaze (Michal); - comment for __ARCH_HAS_5LEVEL_HACK in kasan_populate_zero_shadow(); - acks from Michal" * emailed patches from Kirill A Shutemov <kirill.shutemov@linux.intel.com>: mm: introduce __p4d_alloc() mm: convert generic code to 5-level paging asm-generic: introduce <asm-generic/pgtable-nop4d.h> arch, mm: convert all architectures to use 5level-fixup.h asm-generic: introduce __ARCH_USE_5LEVEL_HACK asm-generic: introduce 5level-fixup.h x86/cpufeature: Add 5-level paging detection

* kprobes: move kprobe declarations to asm-generic/kprobes.hLuis R. Rodriguez2017-02-271-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Often all is needed is these small helpers, instead of compiler.h or a full kprobes.h. This is important for asm helpers, in fact even some asm/kprobes.h make use of these helpers... instead just keep a generic asm file with helpers useful for asm code with the least amount of clutter as possible. Likewise we need now to also address what to do about this file for both when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES, and when they do not. Then for when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES but have disabled CONFIG_KPROBES. Right now most asm/kprobes.h do not have guards against CONFIG_KPROBES, this means most architecture code cannot include asm/kprobes.h safely. Correct this and add guards for architectures missing them. Additionally provide architectures that not have kprobes support with the default asm-generic solution. This lets us force asm/kprobes.h on the header include/linux/kprobes.h always, but most importantly we can now safely include just asm/kprobes.h on architecture code without bringing the full kitchen sink of header files. Two architectures already provided a guard against CONFIG_KPROBES on its kprobes.h: sh, arch. The rest of the architectures needed gaurds added. We avoid including any not-needed headers on asm/kprobes.h unless kprobes have been enabled. In a subsequent atomic change we can try now to remove compiler.h from include/linux/kprobes.h. During this sweep I've also identified a few architectures defining a common macro needed for both kprobes and ftrace, that of the definition of the breakput instruction up. Some refer to this as BREAKPOINT_INSTRUCTION. This must be kept outside of the #ifdef CONFIG_KPROBES guard. Clearing up that confusion allows us to seriously work on unprivileged mounts of fuse in the next development cycle. Culiminating in a fix for a bug that has been present since at least Linux v1.0. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It is the reasonable expectation that if an executable file is not readable there will be no way for a user without special privileges to read the file. This is enforced in ptrace_attach but if ptrace is already attached before exec there is no enforcement for read-only executables. As the only way to read such an mm is through access_process_vm spin a variant called ptrace_access_vm that will fail if the target process is not being ptraced by the current process, or the current process did not have sufficient privileges when ptracing began to read the target processes mm. In the ptrace implementations replace access_process_vm by ptrace_access_vm. There remain several ptrace sites that still use access_process_vm as they are reading the target executables instructions (for kernel consumption) or register stacks. As such it does not appear necessary to add a permission check to those calls. This bug has always existed in Linux. For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency. For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment. On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the hypervisor to give up the timeslice. In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies. In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant "cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield that can be called in places where yielding is more important than latency. By default this is the same as cpu_relax on all architectures.
