| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Linus: On the per-architecture side, I do think it would be better to *not* have internal architecture knowledge in a generic file, and as such a line like depends on X86_32 || IA64 || PPC || S390 || SPARC64 || X86_64 || AVR32 really shouldn't exist in a file like kernel/Kconfig.instrumentation. It would be much better to do depends on ARCH_SUPPORTS_KPROBES in that generic file, and then architectures that do support it would just have a bool ARCH_SUPPORTS_KPROBES default y in *their* architecture files. That would seem to be much more logical, and is readable both for arch maintainers *and* for people who have no clue - and don't care - about which architecture is supposed to support which interface... Changelog: Actually, I know I gave this as the magic incantation, but now that I see it, I realize that I should have told you to just use config ARCH_SUPPORTS_KPROBES def_bool y instead, which is a bit denser. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch restores the blackfin Hardware Performance Monitor Profiling support that was killed by the combining of instrumentation menus in commit 09cadedbdc01f1a4bea1f427d4fb4642eaa19da9. Since there seems to be no good reason to behave differently from other architectures, it now automatically selects the hardware performance counters whenever the profiling is activated. mach-common/irqpanic.c: pm_overflow calls pm_overflow_handler which is in oprofile/op_model_bf533.c. I doubt that setting HARDWARE_PM as "m" will work at all, since the pm_overflow_handler should be in the core kernel image because it is called by irqpanic.c. Therefore, I change HARDWARE_PM from a tristate to a bool. The whole arch/$(ARCH)/oprofile/ is built depending on CONFIG_OPROFILE. Since part of the HARDWARE_PM support files sits in this directory, it makes sense to also depend on OPROFILE, not only PROFILING. Since OPROFILE already depends on PROFILING, it is correct to only depend on OPROFILE only. Thanks to Adrian Bunk for finding this bug and providing an initial patch. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we have a maze of configuration variables that determine the maximum slab size. Worst of all it seems to vary between SLAB and SLUB. So define a common maximum size for kmalloc. For conveniences sake we use the maximum size ever supported which is 32 MB. We limit the maximum size to a lower limit if MAX_ORDER does not allow such large allocations. For many architectures this patch will have the effect of adding large kmalloc sizes. x86_64 adds 5 new kmalloc sizes. So a small amount of memory will be needed for these caches (contemporary SLAB has dynamically sizeable node and cpu structure so the waste is less than in the past) Most architectures will then be able to allocate object with sizes up to MAX_ORDER. We have had repeated breakage (in fact whenever we doubled the number of supported processors) on IA64 because one or the other struct grew beyond what the slab allocators supported. This will avoid future issues and f.e. avoid fixes for 2k and 4k cpu support. CONFIG_LARGE_ALLOCS is no longer necessary so drop it. It fixes sparc64 with SLAB. This adds support for the Analog Devices Blackfin processor architecture, and currently supports the BF533, BF532, BF531, BF537, BF536, BF534, and BF561 (Dual Core) devices, with a variety of development platforms including those avaliable from Analog Devices (BF533-EZKit, BF533-STAMP, BF537-STAMP, BF561-EZKIT), and Bluetechnix! Tinyboards. The Blackfin architecture was jointly developed by Intel and Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) as the Micro Signal Architecture (MSA) core and introduced it in December of 2000. Since then ADI has put this core into its Blackfin processor family of devices. The Blackfin core has the advantages of a clean, orthogonal,RISC-like microprocessor instruction set. It combines a dual-MAC (Multiply/Accumulate), state-of-the-art signal processing engine and single-instruction, multiple-data (SIMD) multimedia capabilities into a single instruction-set architecture.
