* | avr32: fix integer overflow in ELF_ET_DYN_BASEAndrey Ryabinin2015-04-131-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | Almost all arches define ELF_ET_DYN_BASE as 2/3 of TASK_SIZE. Though it seems that some architectures do this in a wrong way. The problem is that 2*TASK_SIZE may overflow 32-bits so the real ELF_ET_DYN_BASE becomes wrong. Fix this overflow by dividing TASK_SIZE prior to multiplying: (TASK_SIZE / 3 * 2) Signed-off-by: Andrey Ryabinin <a.ryabinin@samsung.com> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While working on arch/avr32/include/asm/uaccess.h, I noticed that some macros within this header are made harder to read because they violate a coding style rule: space is missing after comma. * | all arches, signal: move restart_block to struct task_structAndy Lutomirski2015-02-123-6/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting the restart block is a very juicy exploit target. This is because the restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack. Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by making the restart_block harder to locate. Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy targets, at least on some architectures. It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less identical on all architectures. * | vm: add VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV handling supportLinus Torvalds2015-01-291-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The core VM already knows about VM_FAULT_SIGBUS, but cannot return a "you should SIGSEGV" error, because the SIGSEGV case was generally handled by the caller - usually the architecture fault handler. That results in lots of duplication - all the architecture fault handlers end up doing very similar "look up vma, check permissions, do retries etc" - but it generally works. However, there are cases where the VM actually wants to SIGSEGV, and applications _expect_ SIGSEGV. In particular, when accessing the stack guard page, libsigsegv expects a SIGSEGV. And it usually got one, because the stack growth is handled by that duplicated architecture fault handler. However, when the generic VM layer started propagating the error return from the stack expansion in commit fee7e49d4514 ("mm: propagate error from stack expansion even for guard page"), that now exposed the existing VM_FAULT_SIGBUS result to user space. And user space really expected SIGSEGV, not SIGBUS. To fix that case, we need to add a VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV, and teach all those duplicate architecture fault handlers about it. They all already have the code to handle SIGSEGV, so it's about just tying that new return value to the existing code, but it's all a bit annoying. This is the mindless minimal patch to do this. A more extensive patch would be to try to gather up the mostly shared fault handling logic into one generic helper routine, and long-term we really should do that cleanup. Just from this patch, you can generally see that most architectures just copied (directly or indirectly) the old x86 way of doing things, but in the meantime that original x86 model has been improved to hold the VM semaphore for shorter times etc and to handle VM_FAULT_RETRY and other "newer" things, so it would be a good idea to bring all those improvements to the generic case and teach other architectures about them too. * | module_arch_freeing_init(): new hook for archs before module->module_init freed.Rusty Russell2015-01-201-12/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Archs have been abusing module_free() to clean up their arch-specific allocations. Since module_free() is also (ab)used by BPF and trace code, let's keep it to simple allocations, and provide a hook called before that. This means that avr32, ia64, parisc and s390 no longer need to implement their own module_free() at all. avr32 doesn't need module_finalize() either. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Alternative to RPS/RFS is to use hardware support for multiple queues. Then split a set of million of sockets into worker threads, each one using epoll() to manage events on its own socket pool. Ideally, we want one thread per RX/TX queue/cpu, but we have no way to know after accept() or connect() on which queue/cpu a socket is managed. We normally use one cpu per RX queue (IRQ smp_affinity being properly set), so remembering on socket structure which cpu delivered last packet is enough to solve the problem. After accept(), connect(), or even file descriptor passing around processes, applications can use : int cpu; socklen_t len = sizeof(cpu); getsockopt(fd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_INCOMING_CPU, &cpu, &len); And use this information to put the socket into the right silo for optimal performance, as all networking stack should run on the appropriate cpu, without need to send IPI (RPS/RFS). The distinction has been gone for many years now; however, the now duplicate two sets of accessors remained with the pointer based ones - this_cpu_*() - evolving various other operations over time. During the process, we also accumulated other inconsistent operations. This pull request contains Christoph's patches to clean up the duplicate accessor situation. __get_cpu_var() uses are replaced with with this_cpu_ptr() and __this_cpu_ptr() with raw_cpu_ptr(). Unfortunately, the former sometimes is tricky thanks to C being a bit messy with the distinction between lvalues and pointers, which led to a rather ugly solution for cpumask_var_t involving the introduction of this_cpu_cpumask_var_ptr(). This converts most of the uses but not all. Christoph will follow up with the remaining conversions in this merge window and hopefully remove the obsolete accessors" * 'for-3.18-consistent-ops' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tj/percpu: (38 commits) irqchip: Properly fetch the per cpu offset percpu: Resolve ambiguities in __get_cpu_var/cpumask_var_t -fix ia64: sn_nodepda cannot be assigned to after this_cpu conversion. * | arch, locking: Ciao arch_mutex_cpu_relax()Davidlohr Bueso2014-07-171-0/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The arch_mutex_cpu_relax() function, introduced by 34b133f, is hacky and ugly. It was added a few years ago to address the fact that common cpu_relax() calls include yielding on s390, and thus impact the optimistic spinning functionality of mutexes. Nowadays we use this function well beyond mutexes: rwsem, qrwlock, mcs and lockref. Since the macro that defines the call is in the mutex header, any users must include mutex.h and the naming is misleading as well. This patch (i) renames the call to cpu_relax_lowlatency ("relax, but only if you can do it with very low latency") and (ii) defines it in each arch's asm/processor.h local header, just like for regular cpu_relax functions. On all archs, except s390, cpu_relax_lowlatency is simply cpu_relax, and thus we can take it out of mutex.h. While this can seem redundant, I believe it is a good choice as it allows us to move out arch specific logic from generic locking primitives and enables future(?) archs to transparently define it, similarly to System Z. | * misc: delete mimc200 fram driverGreg Kroah-Hartman2014-02-282-83/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | To quote Mark: I think it's safe to delete the driver. The mimc200 unit is now basically obsolete and there'll be no new development on it. Becides, it grabs the 0 misc minor number, when it never asked for it, conflicting with the logitech bus mouse driver.
