* alpha, gpio: GENERIC_GPIO default must be nBen Hutchings2011-09-141-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since GPIOLIB is optional on alpha, GENERIC_GPIO must not be selected by default. If GPIOLIB is enabled, it will select GENERIC_GPIO. See <http://bugs.debian.org/638696> for an example of what 'def_bool y' breaks. * alpha: unbreak osf_setsysinfo(SSI_NVPAIRS, [SSIN_UACPROC, UAC_SIGBUS])Sergei Trofimovich2011-08-253-18/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The bug was accidentally found by the following program: #include <asm/sysinfo.h> #include <asm/unistd.h> #include <sys/syscall.h> static int setsysinfo(unsigned long op, void *buffer, unsigned long size, int *start, void *arg, unsigned long flag) { return syscall(__NR_osf_setsysinfo, op, buffer, size, start, arg, flag); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { short x[10]; unsigned int buf[2] = { SSIN_UACPROC, UAC_SIGBUS, }; setsysinfo(SSI_NVPAIRS, buf, 1, 0, 0, 0); int *y = (int*) (x+1); *y = 0; return 0; } The program shoud fail on SIGBUS, but didn't. The patch is a second part of userspace flag fix (commit 745dd2405e28 "Alpha: Rearrange thread info flags fixing two regressions"). Deleted outdated out-of-sync 'UAC_SHIFT' (the cause of bug) in favour of 'ALPHA_UAC_SHIFT'. | * Add Kconfig option ARCH_HAVE_NMI_SAFE_CMPXCHGHuang Ying2011-08-031-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | cmpxchg() is widely used by lockless code, including NMI-safe lockless code. But on some architectures, the cmpxchg() implementation is not NMI-safe, on these architectures the lockless code may need a spin_trylock_irqsave() based implementation. This patch adds a Kconfig option: ARCH_HAVE_NMI_SAFE_CMPXCHG, so that NMI-safe lockless code can depend on it or provide different implementation according to it. On many architectures, cmpxchg is only NMI-safe for several specific operand sizes. So, ARCH_HAVE_NMI_SAFE_CMPXCHG define in this patch only guarantees cmpxchg is NMI-safe for sizeof(unsigned long). * | atomic: cleanup asm-generic atomic*.h inclusionArun Sharma2011-07-261-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After changing all consumers of atomics to include <linux/atomic.h>, we ran into some compile time errors due to this dependency chain: linux/atomic.h -> asm/atomic.h -> asm-generic/atomic-long.h where atomic-long.h could use funcs defined later in linux/atomic.h without a prototype. This patches moves the code that includes asm-generic/atomic*.h to linux/atomic.h. Archs that need <asm-generic/atomic64.h> need to select CONFIG_GENERIC_ATOMIC64 from now on (some of them used to include it unconditionally). Compile tested on i386 and x86_64 with allnoconfig. * | | perf: Remove the nmi parameter from the swevent and overflow interfacePeter Zijlstra2011-07-011-1/+1

For the various event classes: - hardware: nmi=0; PMI is in fact an NMI or we run irq_work_run from the PMI-tail (ARM etc.) - tracepoint: nmi=0; since tracepoint could be from NMI context. - software: nmi=[0,1]; some, like the schedule thing cannot perform wakeups, and hence need 0. As one can see, there is very little nmi=1 usage, and the down-side of not using it is that on some platforms some software events can have a jiffy delay in wakeup (when arch_irq_work_raise isn't implemented). The up-side however is that we can remove the nmi parameter and save a bunch of conditionals in fast paths. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit 21a3c96 uses node_start/end_pfn(nid) for detection start/end of nodes. But, it's not defined in linux/mmzone.h but defined in /arch/???/include/mmzone.h which is included only under CONFIG_NEED_MULTIPLE_NODES=y. Then, we see mm/page_cgroup.c: In function 'page_cgroup_init': mm/page_cgroup.c:308: error: implicit declaration of function 'node_start_pfn' mm/page_cgroup.c:309: error: implicit declaration of function 'node_end_pfn' So, fixiing page_cgroup.c is an idea... But node_start_pfn()/node_end_pfn() is a very generic macro and should be implemented in the same manner for all archs. (m32r has different implementation...) This patch removes definitions of node_start/end_pfn() in each archs and defines a unified one in linux/mmzone.h. It's not under CONFIG_NEED_MULTIPLE_NODES, now. A result of macro expansion is here (mm/page_cgroup.c) for !NUMA start_pfn = ((&contig_page_data)->node_start_pfn); end_pfn = ({ pg_data_t *__pgdat = (&contig_page_data); __pgdat->node_start_pfn + __pgdat->node_spanned_pages;}); for NUMA (x86-64) start_pfn = ((node_data[nid])->node_start_pfn); end_pfn = ({ pg_data_t *__pgdat = (node_data[nid]); __pgdat->node_start_pfn + __pgdat->node_spanned_pages;}); Changelog: - fixed to avoid using "nid" twice in node_end_pfn() macro. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix several security issues in Alpha-specific syscalls. Untested, but mostly trivial. 1. Signedness issue in osf_getdomainname allows copying out-of-bounds kernel memory to userland. 2. Signedness issue in osf_sysinfo allows copying large amounts of kernel memory to userland. 3. Typo (?) in osf_getsysinfo bounds minimum instead of maximum copy size, allowing copying large amounts of kernel memory to userland. 4. Usage of user pointer in osf_wait4 while under KERNEL_DS allows privilege escalation via writing return value of sys_wait4 to kernel memory. While doing this I have noticed that we have some architectures that are very slow to get new system calls. cris seems to be the slowest where the last system calls wired up were preadv and pwritev. avr32 is weird in that recvmmsg was wired up but never declared in unistd.h. frv is behind with perf_event_open being the last syscall wired up. On h8300 the last system call wired up was epoll_wait. On m32r the last system call wired up was fallocate. mn10300 has recvmmsg as the last system call wired up. The rest seem to at least have syncfs wired up which was new in the 2.6.39. v2: Most of the architecture support added by Daniel Lezcano <dlezcano@fr.ibm.com> v3: ported to v2.6.36-rc4 by: Eric W. The calculation of the former depends on the alignment of percpu output section in the kernel image. The linker script macros PERCPU_VADDR() and PERCPU() are used to define this output section and the latter takes @align parameter. Several architectures are using @align smaller than PAGE_SIZE breaking percpu memory alignment. This patch removes @align parameter from PERCPU(), renames it to PERCPU_SECTION() and makes it always align to PAGE_SIZE. While at it, add PCPU_SETUP_BUG_ON() checks such that alignment problems are reliably detected and remove percpu alignment comment recently added in workqueue.c as the condition would trigger BUG way before reaching there. For um, this patch raises the alignment of percpu area. As the area is in .init, there shouldn't be any noticeable difference. * | extable, core_kernel_data(): Make sure all archs define _sdataSteven Rostedt2011-05-201-0/+1

It may or may not return true for RO data, but this utility must work for RW data. Thus both _sdata and _edata must be defined and continuous, without .init sections that may later be freed and replaced by volatile memory (memory that can be freed). This utility function is used to determine if data is safe from ever being freed. Thus it should return true for all RW global data that is not in a module or has been allocated, or false otherwise. Also change core_kernel_data() back to the more precise _sdata condition and document the function.
