* PCI: remove useless pci driver methodDavid Brownell2007-07-112-40/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Remove pointless and never-called enable_wake() hook from pci_driver and from documentation. Evidently this was introduced in the 2.4.6 kernel, but there's no evidence it was ever called; and it was rarely implemented. | |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Based on patch "the scheduled removal of RAW1394_REQ_ISO_{SEND,LISTEN}" from Adrian Bunk, November 20 2006. This patch also removes the underlying facilities in ohci1394 and disables them in pcilynx. That is, hpsb_host_driver.devctl() and hpsb_host_driver.transmit_packet() are no longer used for iso reception and transmission. Since video1394 and dv1394 only work with ohci1394 and raw1394's rawiso interface has never been implemented in pcilynx, pcilynx is now no longer useful for isochronous applications. raw1394 will still handle the request types but will complete the requests with errors that indicate API version conflicts. * | sched: zap the migration init / cache-hot balancing codeIngo Molnar2007-07-091-43/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | the SMP load-balancer uses the boot-time migration-cost estimation code to attempt to improve the quality of balancing. The reason for this code is that the discrete priority queues do not preserve the order of scheduling accurately, so the load-balancer skips tasks that were running on a CPU 'recently'. this code is fundamental fragile: the boot-time migration cost detector doesnt really work on systems that had large L3 caches, it caused boot delays on large systems and the whole cache-hot concept made the balancing code pretty undeterministic as well. (and hey, i wrote most of it, so i can say it out loud that it sucks ;-) under CFS the same purpose of cache affinity can be achieved without any special cache-hot special-case: tasks are sorted in the 'timeline' tree and the SMP balancer picks tasks from the left side of the tree, thus the most cache-cold task is balanced automatically. This proved to be a really bad design decision. Maybe if attribute groups were as flexible as a real directory, and if binary attributes were not second-class citizens, the idea of subdirs and named groups would not have been so bad. This patch makes all the thinkpad-acpi sysfs groups anonymous (thus removing the subdirs), adds the former group names as a prefix (so that hotkey/enable becomes hotkey_enable for example), and updates the documentation. These changes will make the thinkpad-acpi sysfs ABI a lot easier to maintain. Signed-off-by: Henrique de Moraes Holschuh <hmh@hmh.eng.br> Signed-off-by: Len Brown <len.brown@intel.com>
