* docs: update the development process documentJonathan Corbet2011-03-257-128/+167
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Here's a set of changes updating Documentation/development-process. I have update kernel releases and relevant statistics, added information for a couple of tools, zapped some trailing white space, and generally tried to make it more closely match the current state of affairs. [Typo fixes from Joe Perches and Nicolas Kaiser incorporated] Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net> Acked-by: Greg KH <greg@kroah.com> Cc: Randy Dunlap <rdunlap@xenotime.net>
* Documentation/development-process: more staging infoAndres Salomon2010-11-181-6/+19
| | | | | | | | | | Document things that I would've liked to have known when submitting a driver to gregkh for staging. * Documentation/development-process: use -next trees instead of stagingAndres Salomon2010-11-181-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | This is confusing, as we have "staging" trees for drivers/staging. Call them -next trees. * Documentation: update broken web addresses.Justin P. Mattock2010-08-041-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Below you will find an updated version from the original series bunching all patches into one big patch updating broken web addresses that are located in Documentation/* Some of the addresses date as far far back as 1995 etc... so searching became a bit difficult, the best way to deal with these is to use web.archive.org to locate these addresses that are outdated. Now there are also some addresses pointing to .spec files some are located, but some(after searching on the companies site)where still no where to be found. In this case I just changed the address to the company site this way the users can contact the company and they can locate them for the users. Signed-off-by: Justin P. * docs: Encourage better changelogs in the development process documentJonathan Corbet2009-06-041-3/+28
| | | | | | | | Add a couple of paragraphs to the "patch formatting" section on how patches should be described. This text is shamelessly cribbed from suggestions posted by Rusty Russell. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>
