Everything should have been flushed from the CPU_DYING notifier already. Further attempts to enqueue an irq_work are buggy because irqs are disabled by __cpu_disable(). The best we can do is to report the issue to the user. The code will not be called from irq context (so things like get_irq_regs() wont work) but I'm not sure what the requirements are for irq_work in that regard (Peter?). But irqs are disabled and the CPU is about to go offline. Might as well flush the work. And by the time we try to claim a work, if it is already executing concurrently on another CPU, we want to succeed the claiming and queue the work again because the other CPU may have missed the data we wanted to handle in our work if it's about to complete there. This scenario is summarized below: CPU 1 CPU 2 ----- ----- (flags = 0) cmpxchg(flags, 0, IRQ_WORK_FLAGS) (flags = 3) [...] xchg(flags, IRQ_WORK_BUSY) (flags = 2) func() if (flags & IRQ_WORK_PENDING) (not true) cmpxchg(flags, flags, IRQ_WORK_FLAGS) (flags = 3) [...] cmpxchg(flags, IRQ_WORK_BUSY, 0); (fail, pending on CPU 2) This state machine is synchronized using [cmp]xchg() on the flags. As such, the early IRQ_WORK_PENDING check in CPU 2 above is racy. By the time we check it, we may be dealing with a stale value because we aren't using an atomic accessor. As a result, CPU 2 may "see" that the work is still pending on another CPU while it may be actually completing the work function exection already, leaving our data unprocessed. To fix this, we start by speculating about the value we wish to be in the work->flags but we only make any conclusion after the value returned by the cmpxchg() call that either claims the work or let the current owner handle the pending work for us. Once this flag value is set, the work enters a claimable state again. So if we have specific data to compute in our work, we ensure it's either handled by another CPU or locally by enqueuing the work again. This state machine is guanranteed by atomic operations on the flags. So when we set IRQ_WORK_BUSY without using an xchg-like operation, we break this guarantee as in the following summarized scenario: CPU 1 CPU 2 ----- ----- (flags = 0) old_flags = flags; (flags = 0) cmpxchg(flags, old_flags, old_flags | IRQ_WORK_FLAGS) (flags = 3) [...] flags = IRQ_WORK_BUSY (flags = 2) func() (sees flags = 3) cmpxchg(flags, old_flags, old_flags | IRQ_WORK_FLAGS) (give up) cmpxchg(flags, 2, 0); (flags = 0) CPU 1 claims a work and executes it, so it sets IRQ_WORK_BUSY and the work is again in a claimable state. Now CPU 2 has new data to process and try to claim that work but it may see a stale value of the flags and think the work is still pending somewhere that will handle our data. This is because CPU 1 doesn't set IRQ_WORK_BUSY atomically. As a result, the data expected to be handle by CPU 2 won't get handled. To fix this, use xchg() to set IRQ_WORK_BUSY, this way we ensure the CPU 2 will see the correct value with cmpxchg() using the expected ordering. The problem is the mount system call returns EIO which causes the mount to fail, instead of ETIMEDOUT, which would cause the mount to be retried. This patch sets the RPC_TASK_SOFT|RPC_TASK_TIMEOUT flags to the rpc_call_sync() call in nfs_mount() which causes ETIMEDOUT to be returned on timed out connections. This confused me when I wrote commit c5b29f885afe890f953f7f23424045cdad31d3e4 "sunrpc: use seconds since boot in expiry cache" and I managed to break it. The effect is that any TTL is interpreted as 0, and nothing useful gets into the cache. This patch removes the use of get_expiry() - which really expects an expiry time - and uses get_uint() instead, treating the int correctly as a ttl. This fixes a regression that has been present since 2.6.37, causing certain NFS accesses in certain environments to incorrectly fail. However, the client will continue placing lock attempts and the open recovery never seems to be scheduled. The simplest solution is to wait for session recovery to run before retrying the lock. Originally, only PIOQUEUE was supported and it had issues, then DMA support was added this cycle. The original intention was to keep PIOQUEUE since it has less overhead what is nice for small transfers. However, runtime switching between PIOQEUE and DMA depending on the transfer size never worked despite a lot of trying. Since PIOQUEUE mode itself was flaky (polling at places where interrupts failed to work) and the implementation also imposed a size limit for transfers, it is best to remove the support, so users don't fall over its limitations. It also makes the driver a lot cleaner and more robust. If somebody really wants less overhead, plain PIO mode could still be implemented with the addidtional advantage that this mode is also available on MX23, too. This fixes it by calculating the values correctly for the device and for the pixmap. No idea how I haven't seen this before now. Therefore we set it here. This avoids an elaborate on/off state tracking since both primary_dac_dpms() and tv_dac_dpms() functions would have to touch this bit. If the EDID is bogus this flag is no longer reliable. This fix adds a fallback to DAC load detection to determine if anything is connected to the DAC. If not and a (bogus) EDID is found it assumes a digital display is connected. This works around problems with some crappy IPMI devices using Radeon ES1000. Shuts up annoying warnings from the modeset-rework, too. I've noticed that with this patch we know get and unknown connection state since the code can't find a suitable pipe for load detection. But that beats the previous state of affairs, where it tried to use pipe B, actually used pipe A and concluded that something is connected (although it's the LVDS on pipe A and nothing on the VGA connector on pipe B). I've tried to make load detect work by remapping the pipe->planes stuff, so that crtc 0 will use pipe B and hence we still have something left for load-detect on pipe A. But alas, that upset the hw a bit. So there's still some things to figure out, but this here will at least paper over some of the problems.
