| * new helper: compat_user_stack_pointer()Al Viro2012-12-193-2/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Compat counterpart of current_user_stack_pointer(); for most of the biarch architectures those two are identical, but e.g. arm64 and arm use different registers for stack pointer... Note that amd64 variants of current_user_stack_pointer/compat_user_stack_pointer do *not* rely on pt_regs having been through FIXUP_TOP_OF_STACK. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

| * new helper: current_user_stack_pointer()Al Viro2012-12-197-0/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Cross-architecture equivalent of rdusp(); default is user_stack_pointer(current_pt_regs()) - that works for almost all platforms that have usp saved in pt_regs. The only exception from that is ia64 - we want memory stack, not the backing store for register one. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
| * missing user_stack_pointer() instancesAl Viro2012-12-199-0/+10

| * Bury the conditionals from kernel_thread/kernel_execve seriesAl Viro2012-12-1963-131/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | All architectures have CONFIG_GENERIC_KERNEL_THREAD CONFIG_GENERIC_KERNEL_EXECVE __ARCH_WANT_SYS_EXECVE None of them have __ARCH_WANT_KERNEL_EXECVE and there are only two callers of kernel_execve() (which is a trivial wrapper for do_execve() now) left. Kill the conditionals and make both callers use do_execve(). Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 34ae6c96a6a7 ("ARM: 7298/1: realview: fix mapping of MPCore private memory region") accidentally broke the definition for the base address of the private peripheral region on revision B Realview-EB boards. This patch uses the correct address for REALVIEW_EB11MP_PRIV_MEM_BASE. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | flush_cache_louis flushes the D-side caches to the point of unification inner-shareable. On uniprocessor CPUs, this is defined as zero and therefore no flushing will take place. Rather than invent a new interface for UP systems, instead use our SMP_ON_UP patching code to read the LoUU from the CLIDR instead. | * | ARM: missing ->mmap_sem around find_vma() in swp_emulate.cAl Viro2012-12-201-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | find_vma() is *not* safe when somebody else is removing vmas. Not just the return value might get bogus just as you are getting it (this instance doesn't try to dereference the resulting vma), the search itself can get buggered in rather spectacular ways. IOW, ->mmap_sem really, really is not optional here. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Cc: <stable@vger.kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
| * | ARM: 7605/1: vmlinux.lds: Move .notes section next to the rodataPawel Moll2012-12-161-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The .notes, being read-only data by nature, were placed between read-write .data and .bss. This was harmful in case of the XIP kernel, as being placed in the RAM range, most likely far from the ROM address, was inflating the XIP images. Moving the .notes at the end of the read-only section (consisting of .text, .rodata and unwind info) fixes the problem. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 91a9fec (ARM: move debug macros to common location) moves arch/arm/kernel/debug.S and arch/arm/kernel/head.S to CONFIG_DEBUG_LL_INCLUDE, but leaves arch/arm/boot/compressed/head.S still with mach/debug-macro.S. This causes the following build error on platforms that moved to new DEBUG_LL inclusion mechanism, when arch/arm/boot/compressed/head.S is compiled with DEBUG turned on. AS arch/arm/boot/compressed/head.o arch/arm/boot/compressed/head.S:49:30: fatal error: mach/debug-macro.S: No such file or directory compilation terminated. Currently, some don't, others do in various forms. For example: * Return the result. * Return: The result. * Returns the result. * Returns: the result. * Return Value: The result. * @return: the result. * This function returns the result. * It will return the result. Defining a convention would improve consistency of kernel-doc comments. It would also help scripts/kernel-doc identify the text describing the return value of a function. Thus allowing additional checks on the comments, and suitable highlighting in the generated docs (man pages, html, etc). So, as a convention, use a section named "Return" to describe the return value of a function.
