| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If we want to support targets that can change endianness (modern PPC and ARM for the moment), we need to add a per-CPU class method to be called from the virtio code. The virtio_ prefix in the name is a hint for people to avoid misusage (aka. anywhere but from the virtio code). The default behaviour is to return the compile-time default target endianness. * qdev: Replace no_user by cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yetMarkus Armbruster2013-12-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In an ideal world, machines can be built by wiring devices together with configuration, not code. Unfortunately, that's not the world we live in right now. We still have quite a few devices that need to be wired up by code. If you try to device_add such a device, it'll fail in sometimes mysterious ways. If you're lucky, you get an unmysterious immediate crash. To protect users from such badness, DeviceClass member no_user used to make device models unavailable with -device / device_add, but that regressed in commit 18b6dad. The device model is still omitted from help, but is available anyway. Attempts to fix the regression have been rejected with the argument that the purpose of no_user isn't clear, and it's prone to misuse. This commit clarifies no_user's purpose. Anthony suggested to rename it cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet_due_to_internal_bugs, which I shorten somewhat to keep checkpatch happy. While there, make it bool. Every use of cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet gets a FIXME comment asking for rationale. The next few commits will clean them all up, either by providing a rationale, or by getting rid of the use. With that done, the regression fix is hopefully acceptable. * cpu: Move cpu state syncs up into cpu_dump_state()James Hogan2013-09-201-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The x86 and ppc targets call cpu_synchronize_state() from their *_cpu_dump_state() callbacks to ensure that up to date state is dumped when KVM is enabled (for example when a KVM internal error occurs). Move this call up into the generic cpu_dump_state() function so that other KVM targets (namely MIPS) can take advantage of it. This requires kvm_cpu_synchronize_state() and cpu_synchronize_state() to be moved out of the #ifdef NEED_CPU_H in <sysemu/kvm.h> so that they're accessible to qom/cpu.c. * cpu: Replace qemu_for_each_cpu()Andreas Färber2013-09-031-21/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | It was introduced to loop over CPUs from target-independent code, but since commit 182735efaf956ccab50b6d74a4fed163e0f35660 target-independent CPUState is used. A loop can be considered more efficient than function calls in a loop, and CPU_FOREACH() hides implementation details just as well, so use that instead. * gdbstub: Fix gdb_register_coprocessor() register countingAndreas Färber2013-08-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit a0e372f0c49ac01faeaeb73a6e8f50e8ac615f34 reorganized the register counting for GDB. While it seems correct not to let the total number of registers skyrocket in an SMP scenario through a static variable, the distinction between total register count and 'g' packet register count (last_reg vs. num_g_regs) got lost among the way. Fix this by introducing CPUState::gdb_num_g_regs and using that in gdb_handle_packet(). * cpu: Partially revert "cpu: Change qemu_init_vcpu() argument to CPUState"Andreas Färber2013-07-291-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit c643bed99 moved qemu_init_vcpu() calls to common CPUState code. This causes x86 cpu-add to fail with "KVM: setting VAPIC address failed". The reason for the failure is that CPUClass::kvm_fd is not yet initialized in the following call graph: ->x86_cpu_realizefn ->x86_cpu_apic_realize ->qdev_init ->device_set_realized ->device_reset (hotplugged == 1) ->apic_reset_common ->vapic_base_update ->kvm_apic_vapic_base_update This causes attempted KVM vCPU ioctls to fail. By contrast, in the non-hotplug case the APIC is reset much later, when the vCPU is already initialized. As a quick and safe solution, move the qemu_init_vcpu() call back into the targets' realize functions.
