* sysbus: Drop sysbus_from_qdev() cast macroAndreas Färber2013-01-211-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Replace by SYS_BUS_DEVICE() QOM cast macro using a scripted conversion. Avoids the old macro creeping into new code. Resolve a Coding Style warning in openpic code. * Make default boot order machine specificAvik Sil2013-01-151-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes default boot order machine specific instead of set globally. The default boot order can be set per machine in QEMUMachine boot_order. This also allows a machine to receive a NULL boot order when -boot isn't used and take an appropriate action accordingly. This helps machine boots from the devices as set in guest's non-volatile memory location in case no boot order is provided by the user. * Make all static TypeInfos constAndreas Färber2013-01-101-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since 39bffca2030950ef6efe57c2fac8327a45ae1015 (qdev: register all types natively through QEMU Object Model), TypeInfo as used in the common, non-iterative pattern is no longer amended with information and should therefore be const. Fix the documented QOM examples: sed -i 's/static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' include/qom/object.h Since frequently the wrong examples are being copied by contributors of new devices, fix all types in the tree: sed -i 's/^static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' */*.c sed -i 's/^static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' */*/*.c This also avoids to piggy-back these changes onto real functional changes or other refactorings. Leave include/net/tap.h as the interface for NICs, and net/tap_int.h as the interface for OS-specific parts of the tap backend. Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
* Rename target_phys_addr_t to hwaddrAvi Kivity2012-10-231-8/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | target_phys_addr_t is unwieldly, violates the C standard (_t suffixes are reserved) and its purpose doesn't match the name (most target_phys_addr_t addresses are not target specific). Replace it with a finger-friendly, standards conformant hwaddr. Outstanding patchsets can be fixed up with the command git rebase -i --exec 'find -name "*.[ch]" | xargs s/target_phys_addr_t/hwaddr/g' origin Signed-off-by: Avi Kivity <avi@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>
* create struct for machine initialization argumentsEduardo Habkost2012-10-201-8/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This should help us to: - More easily add or remove machine initialization arguments without having to change every single machine init function; - More easily make mechanical changes involving the machine init functions in the future; - Let machine initialization forward the init arguments to other functions more easily. This change was half-mechanical process: first the struct was added with the local ram_size, boot_device, kernel_*, initrd_*, and cpu_model local variable initialization to all functions. Then the compiler helped me locate the local variables that are unused, so they could be removed. Signed-off-by: Blue Swirl <blauwirbel@gmail.com>

* qom: Unify type registrationAndreas Färber2012-02-151-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Replace device_init() with generalized type_init(). While at it, unify naming convention: type_init([$prefix_]register_types) Also, type_init() is a function, so add preceding blank line where necessary and don't put a semicolon after the closing brace. * qdev: register all types natively through QEMU Object ModelAnthony Liguori2012-02-031-20/+24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This was done in a mostly automated fashion. I did it in three steps and then rebased it into a single step which avoids repeatedly touching every file in the tree. The first step was a sed-based addition of the parent type to the subclass registration functions. The second step was another sed-based removal of subclass registration functions while also adding virtual functions from the base class into a class_init function as appropriate. Finally, a python script was used to convert the DeviceInfo structures and qdev_register_subclass functions to TypeInfo structures, class_init functions, and type_register_static calls. We are almost fully converted to QOM after this commit. Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Drop the open-coded MAC assignment from net_init_nic and replace it with standard qemu_macaddr_default_if_unset which is also used by qdev. That avoid creating colliding MACs when instantiating NICs via different mechanisms. This change requires to store the MAC as MACAddr in NICInfo, and the remaining nd_table users need to be updated. * change all other clock references to use nanosecond resolution accessorsPaolo Bonzini2011-03-211-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This was done with: sed -i 's/qemu_get_clock\>/qemu_get_clock_ns/' \ $(git grep -l 'qemu_get_clock\>' ) sed -i 's/qemu_new_timer\>/qemu_new_timer_ns/' \ $(git grep -l 'qemu_new_timer\>' ) after checking that get_clock and new_timer never occur twice on the same line. There were no missed occurrences; however, even if there had been, they would have been caught by the compiler. There was exactly one false positive in qemu_run_timers: - current_time = qemu_get_clock (clock); + current_time = qemu_get_clock_ns (clock); which is of course not in this patch. * Add endianness as io mem parameterAlexander Graf2010-12-111-4/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | As stated before, devices can be little, big or native endian. The target endianness is not of their concern, so we need to push things down a level. This patch adds a parameter to cpu_register_io_memory that allows a device to choose its endianness. For now, all devices simply choose native endian, because that's the same behavior as before. * New qdev_init_nofail()Markus Armbruster2009-10-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Like qdev_init(), but terminate program via hw_error() instead of returning an error value. Use it instead of qdev_init() where terminating the program on failure is okay, either because it's during machine construction, or because we know that failure can't happen. Because relying in the latter is somewhat unclean, and the former is not always obvious, it would be nice to go back to qdev_init() in the not-so-obvious cases, only with proper error handling. I'm leaving that for another day, because it involves making sure that error values are properly checked by all callers. | | | | | | | | | | | | In the very least, a change like this requires discussion on the list. The naming convention is goofy and it causes a massive merge problem. * qdev: add return value to init() callbacks.Gerd Hoffmann2009-08-271-7/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Sorry folks, but it has to be. One more of these invasive qdev patches. We have a serious design bug in the qdev interface: device init callbacks can't signal failure because the init() callback has no return value. This patch fixes it. We have already one case in-tree where this is needed: Try -device virtio-blk-pci (without drive= specified) and watch qemu segfault. This patch fixes it. With usb+scsi being converted to qdev we'll get more devices where the init callback can fail for various reasons. * qdev: rework device properties.Gerd Hoffmann2009-07-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch is a major overhaul of the device properties. The properties are saved directly in the device state struct now, the linked list of property values is gone. Advantages: * We don't have to maintain the list with the property values. * The value in the property list and the value actually used by the device can't go out of sync any more (used to happen for the pci.devfn == -1 case) because there is only one place where the value is stored. * A record describing the property is required now, you can't set random properties any more. There are bus-specific and device-specific properties. The former should be used for properties common to all bus drivers. Typical use case is bus addressing, i.e. pci.devfn and i2c.address. Properties have a PropertyInfo struct attached with name, size and function pointers to parse and print properties. A few common property types have PropertyInfos defined in qdev-properties.c. Drivers are free to implement their own very special property parsers if needed. Properties can have default values. If unset they are zero-filled.
