NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Android's Bionic number the clauses 1 through 3,
so follow suit to make comparison easier.

signed. Clean things up by splitting 'r' into two variables, and

avoiding the Id-smashing problem which has plagued developers for so long.
Boy, I'm glad we're not using sup anymore. This update would have been
